Last year Roeseler broke Malcolm Smith 's ISDE record by winning hi s ninth gold medal at the West German ISDE. The Super Senior final featured a thriller between Gary Peak 's Yamaha an d Barry Higgin's KTM 600cc fourstroke. The two battled side-by-side until Higgi ns stalled the thumper on lap six and coul dn't restart it, Peak said, " H iggi ns wo u ld eat me up in the straights and corners, but I could take him in the wh oops. I don 't see how he rode that big 600 so fast on an MX track." Higgins said, "I stripped my countershaft sprocket and broke the chain in the heat, but it was fun for a while in the ' main." . Jason Fowler took the lead in 125cc B division o ne class after passing early leaders Ri chard Zupko and Ro nn ie Yarbro. Brian Behrmann joined the battle and it went to the wire. Peru 's J u li o Chiang to p ped the 125cc C division and earned the series championship. He said, " Win ning in the USA means a lot, but a win at : Daytona means even more.
