Jannan's Sponcycles-sponsored Kevin Walker
slid to victory in the 25Occ' A class while
brother Timmy prevailed in a tough battle
with Mark Ashworth to win the 30 Plus
Division One class at David Bailey's Lake
Sugar Tree MX raceway. Approximately 547
riders were on hand to tacJc.Ie the well-prepped
course when dark clouds moved in and heavy
rains turned the uack into oatmeal. The
muddy conditions and large cider tumout
forced referee Carl Reynolds to cut the classes
to a single molO, giving riders only one chance
to produce a top finish.
Walker made fast work o[ the 250cc A class
as he took the early lead and mastered the
mud for an easy win over Honda-mounted
David Becltington and' Steven Herman with
Chad Lough and Jeromy Buehl making the
lOp five.
Mike Brown turned a good start into a big
lead in the 125cc A class while Beuh! handled
second over Beckington and Craig Ellis.
The 30 Plus Division One class saw
Ashworth take the early lead followed by
Timmy Walker with Chris Brewer and Steve
Starnes in a tussle over third. Ashworth and
Walker put on a show as they swapped the
lead several times before Walker look the win
with Starnes third over Brewer.
"Walker never gives up, he deserved to win
today," said Ashworth.
In the 30 Plus Division Two class it was
Fred Vertucci pushin~ past Robert Huston on
the opening lap whJle the pack sorted out
behind. Vertucci stretched his lead over
Huston and Sonny Mitchell while Steve
Simpson moved his Honda into fourth over
Mark Rollins. The top five held their
positions [or the remainder of the molO.
The 250cc C Division One class left the line
in !.he pouring rain as Kevin Thompson
plowed his way out from ahead of David Lister
and Ricky Franklin while James Goin was
reeling the pressure from Dennis Jones.
Thompson stayed on two wheels and took the
win over Lister with J ones taking third over
Franklin and Goin.
