Portman went side-by-side with IW/fECDI Rega n Madden for the entire race. Portm an had the edge at the " art/finish lin e for th e first five la ps, th en Madden go t a wh eel up on him to tak e th e victory a t th e end of 10 laps. The Sweep stak es race had the to p four from the 250<:c race o n th e inside, and th e to p four fro m th e O pen race o n th e outside lined up two b y two Inverted from th eir feature events. It was a winner-tak e-a ll bonus race. Ham ilto n and Segedy moved through the pack. but Hamilt on cleared th e traffi c faster and was putting some dis ta nce betw een himself a nd the o the rs. JAN . 29 Dan Kirk and J osh Welsh both took o vera ll wins in th e Four-Strok e Open and 80cc classes, respectively, at th e scrambles held at Wood · land's Mot ocross Park. In th e first moto of the Four-Strok e Open class Kirk ca me out fast leading Kevin Bass, Floyd Beisel , Bryon Lowe and the o the rs. On lap two Bass go t by Robby Ohge whil e Low e and Beisel battled back and fort h right to th e end . Kirk and Bass left Oh ge a nd th e o ,:,.rs aboul30 yards behind. Kirk was looking gr ea t. then co mi ng out of turn four for th e la st tim e he ran in to two fall en riders. Kirk was for ced to go wid e while ' Bass was ab le to sq ueeze by on th e inside.
