The Team Profile #47 • "SU.PER/MOTO CROSS IS a very good. magazine.. • •" -Pat Alexander Name: Pat Alexander Occupation: Race team manager, American Suzu ki Motor Corp. Job description: "I coordinate racing for Suzu ki in the U.'S. My primary duty is managing the professional motocross team, but I'm also involved in developing and testing future motocross bikes, and in rul es-making as a member of the AMA's motocross and roadracing advisory boards." Riding hist ory: -r learned to ride on a 'Taco mini bike, bu t my first real motorcycle (in 1969) was a Suzuki 120 modified for oval track rac ing. I eventually raced motocross in South ern California for three years." Professional background: "I had small engines traini ng in high schoo l and had always played with motorcycles, working on my own and other people's bikes. I started out as a mech anic with DG 'a nd Mark Tye r back in 1975. In 1977 I was hired by Suzuki as a racing mechanic, working primarily with the motocross team. I worked with Danny LaPorte from '77 through the 1980 season. We tied for the 125 National Championship in 1977 and won the 500 National Championship in 7 In 1981, I 79. worked for Marty Smith, and then became racing manager for Suzuki in 1982." . . .C a r e e r highlight: "1 979 500 .
