Brian Ral eigh led Chris Murphy, Chad Doggett, GuyC omer and Mike Gi em th e second th e gate dr opped but slo wly faded back to thi rd givi ng Murphy the lead. Back in th e pack Sauro was tryi ng to make up for a poor sta rt which left the Honda rider in seventh . By the third lap Sauro had ta ken over th e runner-up position and proceeded to ca tch Murphy. The fin al three laps saw Sauro reel in Murphy and challenge for the lead. The two riders battled for th e rem ainder of th e race with Sauro edging out Murphy before the finish. Raleigh took third with Eric Nordin and Comer round- . ing out the top five. Doggett came back in the fin al round to lea d Tim Riggs, Eric Nordin, a nd Sauro on the first lap. Sauro again quickly started p icking off the riders who stood in his way and soon moved into the lead . Once into first Sauro maintained a smooth, comfortable pace before greeting the checkers in front of Doggett and Murphy. Nordin again was fourth with Com er taking fifth . • AMA DEnniS KirK.
