H a rl ey-Davidso n rider Mark Key
fo und the right combination of
throttle and brake to earn the overall
victory in the Pro-Am short track
main event at Lodi Cycle Bowl,
despite getting snuffed by' H ondamounted Bobby McDowell in the
heats.
In the main event, Key took the
early lead, while McDowell was
caught in a sandwich between two
Rotax riders, Robert Damron and
Steve Mayfield. After the bumping
and shoving was over, Daniel
McDonnell, also on a Harley, fell
into the second spot, while McDowell came off ' in the fourth spot
behind Damron. Mayfield landed in
fifth, and the catch-up game began.
While McDonnell was trying to
find a line around Key, McDowell
was riding hard on the move to get
to the front, He was able to get
around Damron, then started out
after McDonnell but couldn 't get
around him no matter what line he
tr ied. McDonnell kept changing
lines to block the way. With McDonne ll . working hard to ho ld back
McDowell, Key was ab le to extend
his lead and came in first at the
checkered £lag followed by McDonnell, McDowell, Da m ron and
Mayfield.
In the Open Expert race, McDowell grabbed the holeshot from the
outside and was gone. Damron .took
the second spot with ROlaX rider
Steve Raymond in third. Steve May-
