Paladino, Zahrf take Baylands Motocross By Mike Vancil FREMONT, CA, JULY 6 Ken Zahrt, Danny Paladino and Sean Conley all took double moto wins in the 250" l25cc and Open P ro classes, ' respectively, a t Baylands Raceway Park. The Pro divisions were started in a double-wave start at the CMCsanctioned race. The 250s were off first and the combined 125 and 500cc class got the second ga te drop. The , plan worked well as the 500cc class riders were not competing with, nor were they bo thered by, the l25cc class riders. The firstman away from the gate ' was Ken Zahrt, but he was under pressure from Ru ss Scott. Scott hung on the entire mota for second behind Zahrt. In these two positions, the second mota was no different. Dennis H armel was only into his second week of come back action, after a year layoff from racing, and he p ut toge ther a 3-4 evening. Eric Sa ndstrom reversed that performance with a 4-3 and took third overall on his Kawasaki. Back in second-wave action, it was all Danny Pa ladino on a Honda CRl25, and at the end of the mota, he wasn 't far away from the tai l end 250cc rider. Expectations for a good confrontation from Todd Hicks did not ma terialize as his machine broke on the grid. The second-place l25cc P ro , even though he fell once in the first mota, was brand-new expert Mi chael Minjares, who has been ridi ng mos t of this season as, a successfu l intermediate-ranked rider. , The Open Pro s, were hot on the heel s of their leader, Sean Con ley and h is ' O ' Neal/Mar in Motor Sport/ J o rgen son ' R esearch -sp o n so r ed Kawasaki .
