Bostroms blasts Baylands ST By Mike Vancil FREM ONT, CA, J ULY 8 The Bostrom team of Dave, Ben and Eri c'won all fo ur clas ses th ey entered at Baylands Ra ceway Park's short trac k. For the elder Bostrom, Dave, father of Ben a nd Eri c, the vict ory ca me in . th e h ig h ly co m peti tive Expe rt class. Da ve h ad in ten ded racing in th e Vetera n class , but wh en no o the r vets showed he obtained th e pro en try. In his heat race Dave was able to m us ter a thi rd behind fast-charging J on N unez on a H arley-Davidso n sporiso red by Shoei H elmets, T su ba ki Ch ain , N-D Spark Plugs a nd H y-Tec h P o wde r Co ati ng and seco nd-place Ma rk Corsetti on a Woods Ro tax sponsored by Shoei H elmets , H o g wash Cl eaner a nd Corsetti racin g. . The final for th e class brought both hea ts together but severa l fal se starts put all but Bostrom and Steve Raymond on the penalty lin e. At th e green ligh t Ra ymond had th e lead but was soon overtaken by Mark Corsetti. Two la ps la ter, th e lead went away for Co rsetti as he raised his hand to signify engi ne trouble. At thi s poi nt Bostrom grabbed the lead an d held off th e few remaining charges of Nunez. Action in th e 80cc classes brought ou t the ta lent s of th e Bostrom boys. T he junior ra nked riders were lined up in th e first row while th e expert, Ben Bostrom, was positi oned in th e second row. If Ben wa s to ta ke home a tro phy he had to bea t everyone. At th e green light it was Eric into an immediate lead but by th e th ird lap hi s brother Ben caught and passed hi m . They finish ed the hea t race with a clea r win for Ben but Eric los t o ut on th e last lap to J immy Alvernez. T he start of the final was much the same a nd it took two la ps for Ben to ca tch the lead ers fro m hi s second-ro w start. The pace was faster and thi s time Eri c kept glued to hi s brother 's rear fender to make it Bostrorns o ne a nd two across th e finis h li ne. This gave the wi n in th e Expert class to Ben a nd the win in the J unior class to Eri c. ~ O ne more Bostrom win came in the Vintage clas s when Ben rode hi s H onda four-strok e to first over David Tucker ·o n an ea rly Suzuki twostro ke and J eff Waddell. Scott great at Baylands Motocross By M ike Vancil FREMONT , CA, J ULY 13 H o nda- mounted Russ Sco tt finall y go t th e upper ha nd on Ken ny Zahrt to capture the overall victory in the 250cc Pro class at Baylands MX. Scott came fro m beh ind to win the first mo to a nd led from start to finis h in the second ro und. Wh en the gate dropped for the start o f the fir st mo ta , Zah rt nai led h is cus tomary hol esh ot but lost the lead a few lap s later whe n he had to back off the throttle in order to keep from going off th e track. Wh en this happened, Scott sn uck by and shot" into the lead with Zah rt resumin g in seco nd. H o wever , Za h rt bobbled a few more times befo re it was all over a nd dropped to fourth , ha nding J eff Pestana a nd Danny Pa lad in o seco nd-and th ird. In round two, Zah rt , once agai n , jammed in to the early lead bu t was passed by Sco tt in the sam e place as in th e firs t moto. This tim e, Zahrt maintai ned seco n d bu t couldn 't ca tch Sco tt. Scott went on to take hi s second mot a win for the overall, wi th Zahrt settlin g in to second for second overa ll. The 250cc J r. class featured th e most riders o n th e starting line, a nd when it was all over, it was Su zuk i ri der Sea n Hummel the vict o r. Cavallo 's crash aIlo wed Ratliff to move to th ird over Rudd and Marc Deslauriers. U p front the battle for th e lead bega n to build as Yo rk ca ught Williams , and at the halfway point York dove underneath Williams to take over th e lead. Williams tri ed to regain the lead, but a t th e finish York took th e win followed by Williams, Ra tliff, Rudd and Desla urlers. Bill By M ikki McBride NEWMAN, CA, J ULY 22 _Bryan and Bobby McDowell were th e ones to bea t in th e Pro -Am main at H ills Ferry Speedway Short Track, today, but no o ne cou ld. Bryan edged brother Bobby to nail th e win with Rober t Damron finish ing third. In the main event Ro tax rid er Ra ndy Berernan was off the lin e firs t with Yamaha-moun ted Woddy Rogers in seco nd with a fast riding Kevin Bricker bringing u p a close third on a R o tax. During the second lap, Rogers went wide comi ng out of tum two and Bricker , Bryan McDowell a nd Damro n were ab le to scoo t under hi m . Bryan, ridi ng hi s old Ro tax, was in the fir st spot by the fourth lap and hung o n to it all the way. Brother Bobb yMcOowell , rid ing h is trusty Bob Codd special Honda d id a fan tastic job of coming from behi nd. From th e 10th spot off th e lin e, Bob by was in fifth by the time Brya n took over first and still moving on up.
