Harth conquers at Rockingham RR By Larry Lawrence ROCKINGHAM, NC , MAY 29 Mike Harth won three ra ces and 'finished second in another in WERA Sprint race action at Rockin gh am. Harth feels right at home on th e high banks of North Carolina Motor Speedway; aft er all a good portion of his early road race experience was gained on another track with high banks - T exas World Speedway. Harth adapted quickl y to the chica ne that was installed a fte r Sunda y mornin g's practi ce session, and went on to win $1850 in con tinge ncy money from Suzuki and $100 fro m th eWERA. Harth fin ally broke th ecold streak he was hav ing by winnin g h is first C Production race of th e seaso n o n the H arth Ra cing/Team Hammer/ Michelin/Fox /Dyno J et-sp onsored Suzuki 600 Katana. H arth draft ed past early leader Kurt H all on the ultra-fast banking an d survived a late race challenge from T eam Suzuki Endurance teammat e J amie J am es to take th e victory. ( " I may not be quite as fast as I used to be, but I still have a few good da ys left in me," joked th e 32-year old Harth. H arth 's. othe r two victories came in the B Production a nd Open Formula races. Both races were won in co nvincing fashi on ; Harth pulled away from Kurt H all, who took second both times. Fellow Georgian Paul Bray was th e only one wh o got the best of Harth allday, In A Producti on, Bray followed Harth around for eigh t laps before outbraking him co ming off the banking with two laps remaining. O n the final lap, H arth made a last ditch effort to get around Bray through the last turn, bu t go t into a wic ked slide and had to settle for second place. T wo riders that were far fro m home p ut on a show in the B Su perbike event. Scott Zampach a nd J ohn Eldenb erger, both from Wis 'consin , didn 't settle the race o utcome un til the last lap. Zampach had as much as a three-second advantage over Eidenberger aft er taking the lead from Gl enn Szarek on the third lap. Eidenberger whittled away on the lead so that by the white flag la p he h ad his P o rt Washington Yamaha/D unlop /Dyne -J e t/Pr o gre ssive/ Fo x/ P hi l Flack Racing/ Solmax-sponsored Yama ha FZR750 su perbike on the tai lpipe of Zam - pach's production Suzuki. Once ou t on the ba nking, Eidenberger used his superior power to motor by and hold on for the victory. " My brakes were gone; a couple of times I thought I wo uld run into the back of Zam psch's bik e. Davis dusts Prescott J.OO By Michael Ross PRESCOTT, AZ, MAY 29 " Did I win it?" was all Scott Davis could manage to say at the finish line afte r 93 gruelling miles of racing to win hi s second overall victory this Jo shua Giles raced his Honda CR500 to second place, behind Bob Russell, in th e Open Expert class at the Prescott 100 . . year in the Arizona Desert Ra cing Association 's I I th Annual Presco tt 100. Davis cras hed hard five mi les from the finish line and knocked himself senseless for approximately o ne minute, he remounted, no t knowing if rival J eff Darland had pass ed and soldi ered on to win by 10 seconds ov er Darla nd. Davis completed the co urse in 3:00:32 on his Yamaha of Tucso n /Sparks Cycle-sponsored Yamaha YZ250. Darland crashe d five times in pursuit of Davi s but a flat tire o n the second lap cost him more than a minute to repair and th e race. T h ird overa ll Bobby Russell cros sed . th e finish line in 3:12:58 and ยท took first in th e O pen Expert class. Davi s took th e green flag first followed 10seconds later by Dar land, then th e rest of th e 206 starters a t 10 second interval s. Tim Leeh e was one of th e first o u t of th e race wh en he cras hed o n a roc ky downhill section and fractured his right wrist. After the first lap th e leaders pitted, a bo ut 10 seconds apart, took on fuel a n d resumed ra cing . Darl and ' s expansi on cha m be r h ad been crus hed wh en he hit a tree. La p two sa w Darland pit first with a two-rninu tee advantage, but his rear tire was fla t and he wat ched Davis fuel up and leave while hi s crew feverish ly cha nged rear wh eels. About one and a half m inutes later Darl and was back in th e race. " I ca ug h t Davis and passed hi m and then started to pu t tim e on him, but I crashed again wh en th e fro nt wh eel washed o u t. I was so tired my arms were lik e butter. I could n 't pi ck up th e bike. It took me awhile to get going, " exp la i n ed J eff afterwards. With five miles to go Davis crashed hard. " I hit a rock a nd knocked myself in the head. I was n't co herent "and I saw red spots. I lost a couple m in utes layin g on the ground," explained Davis after th e race. Stevens zeroes Scrub Oak Enduro By Sc ott Shepherd DAYTONA, FL , MAY 22 H i-P oint rid er and AA class win ner Kevin Stevens ea rne d a perfect score at th e Da yton a Din R iderssponsored enduro. Stevens, aboa rd a Husqvarna calcula ted hi s way to a close victory over AA riders Alle n Gravitt, Kenny Keylon and Bruce Buerk, KTM-moun ted Allen Gra vitt fin ished second with o n ly one pen al ty p oint. Kawasaki -Suzuki of Lake Wal es-sponsored Keylon and KTM rider Buerk broke a tie for thi rd by five seco nds. With three pe na lty points each , Keylon came o ut O Il top. T he course co nsisted of a th reeloop setup with two gas SLOpS and 10check points for a total of 77 miles. Trai l Boss Nick Krupa stated, "T he first loop was the easiest , and many riders zeroed. The second loop was the point-taker; everyone lost poi nts except Stevens. T he loop wasn't diffic ult, bu t there was no place to make up time. The third loop was also less complica ted." .Senior rider J ohn Krell set out to attack the course, on ly to fou l a plug in the third loo p.
