Price wins a 'pair at Pine Grove ST By Len Breech PINE GROVE, PA , MAY 15 Young Expert Georgie Price proved that sometimes youthful exuberance can overcom e ex perience as he led severa l veteran riders acr oss th e line. at the Fl ying Dutchmen M.C.'s first short track of the season, cla iming both 250 and 600cc Expert class wins. Price jumped into the lead a t th e start of the 250cc Expert fin al with' T odd Kendig, J on Sim p so n a nd Mike Varnes close behind. After a few laps Price h ad pu t h is C&S Kawa saki-sp onsored Kawasaki severa l yards in front of th e o the rs. Sim pson fell o n th e.second lap, with Tom Cerciell o moving into third a fter a bad start, on the following lap. H e stayed close to Kendig for seco nd for' the remainder o f th e race . In th e 600cc Ex pe rt class T om Maj eski quickl y put hi s D&S Cycles Harley severa l len gths in front of T odd Hu rst , P r ice a n d Larry Sweeten as they exited th e second turn on the opening lap. But on the seco nd lap he pulled o u t, giving the lead to Price. Price's win was assured on the sixth lap wh en La rry Sweeten moved into th e second spo t. In th e late laps, Dave 'Lesn ick a nd Mark Crosby battled o ver fourth , with Lesnick winning th e battle. Aft er fini shing secon d severa l tim es in the la st month , Chuck Wr ecsics fin all y took first in th e 250cc Amateur class for hi s first win o n a full-sized machine a fter moving u p fro m the 80s' last year. H e jumped . into th e lead immedi atel y ahead o f Ri ch Skiles, Mark Lockwood a nd Ri ck Mell inger. Mellinger moved into third on the seco nd la p. While Wrecsics wa s pulling away to a straigh taw ay margin. Lockw ood had hi s battle with Randy Buzzard for fourth mov e into a battl e wi th Mellinger for third in th e late laps. After crash in g into the tires lin ing th e o u tside of th e track o n th e fin al lap in the hea t, Dall as Baer quickl y too k th e lead a t th e start of the 600cc Amat eur fin al with Rich Mell inger , J im Lynch and J ohn Sa lerno in close pursui t. Mik e· Walton mo ved .into fourth a t th e end of the fir srlap, with Lynch taking over second half a lap later. Baer and Lynch battled the remainder of the race with five yards separating them , while Walton moved into a close battle with Mellinger in the late stages, taking third on the 11th lap. Ratzloff, Kalmick win at Glen Helen OT MX By Sam English SAN BERNARDINO, CA, MAY 22 T he Los Angeles Old Timers MX Club saw Ken Ratzloff and Fred Kalmick each win both motos in th e Master a nd Amateur.classes at Glen Hel en OHV Park. Honda-mounted Ratzloff jumped out in .front a t th e first turn of the Master class followed by Ron Way , J ohn White and Jack Kell. Ratzloff held on for' the wire-to-wire win, bu t his ride was not a runaway as both White and Way kept the pressure on to th e finish . Second moto ac tion 'sa w th e lead cha nge four different times a fter Ratzloff cra shed o n lap three. Wa y a nd White swap ped th e lead a co u ple of tim es in th e next few laps but Ra tzloff got on the gas. At the finish it was Ra tzloff, White a nd Way. Milton Roybal (Kaw). .SUGAR GROVE: OH, MAY 14-15 Jerom y Buehl went undefeated as h won eig h t m otos to take four overall class wins in th e 125cc Stock a nd Modified (12-15) a nd 125cc B Stock and Modified classes at th e Central Ohio Competition Rider s' AMA Mid-East Area Qualifier. Chuck Reed a lso too k four class win s in the 250cc A Stock and Modified and the 125cc A Stock an d Modified classes . In the I25cc A Modified class Greg Bo wen rounded tu rn o ne of th e seco nd mot o after Reed earne d the win in mot o o ne. Bowen stretched o u t h is lead as he was pursued b y Tom Dol en a nd Reed in thi rd. Reed went down, taking th e pressure of Dol en . Reed was quickl y back underwa y and passed Dolen. Bowen grabbed th e moto win with Reed second and Dol en thi rd . Reed won moto one of the 125cc A Stock class and was the early leader in moto two as he was chased by Bryan Smith. Smith stole the lead from Reed but Reed recharged to go around Smith to take th e win with Smith taking runner-up honors. Buehl had a midpack start in the second moto of the 125cc B Stock class as James Eickel took charge followed by Eric McLear. Eickel was kept alert by McLear and Buehl who had moved into third. Buehl moved by McLear to take over second and charged for Eickel. Eickel was chal.Ienged by Buehl and the white flag lap saw Buehl in 'con trol as Eickel applied pressure.
