Fr ai zer , w ho wo n the 550 cc n u m ber two p late last year by consistentl y fini shing second a nd third in 1987, started the new seaso n with his first Class A win. Although Fraizer was leading at th e end of the first ro und . it wasn 't over until it was over. Class champ ion ' G reg Will iams, riding th e ST P Special H onda, fell hard o n h is first a ttem p t, He was th e last rider in th e class and hi s secondtry time o f 3.327 seco nds forced Fra izer to ride again . J eff Yod er fini shed fourth with a 3.21-second blast ab oard his Harley . Yamaha-moun ted Charlie Casey was fifth wi th a 3.32-seCond ride, beating Co n ley Newsome by .01 of a seco nd.
