give Greene some competition as the duo broke away from the Formula Two pa ck by nearly three seconds on the first lap. Although less than a second separa ted th e two men for th e first two la p s, Green e seemed to move awa y from Stephens effort lessly. St ephen s, who was by far th e smoothes t rider , was relegated to second spot for the remainder of th e race. The Menl o Pa rk rid er wa s far en ough a hea d of Stephe n Wickland, Thomas Mon tano, a nd Er ic Condo - third , fourth, a nd fifth respectively - th at th ere was never a threa t to hi s position. After some terrific dicing betw een Montano, Condo, and Wickl and, th e top five look ed lik e th is: Don Green e first, j ames Step he ns second, Stephen Wickl and third , Thom as Montan o fourth a nd Eri c Condo fifth . In The Formula One race Don . Green e sh ined aga in. Riding th e sam e 250cc two-st rok e twin , Green e mad e no pretens e of competing as a secondary rid er.
