poi nt, Peterson had opened up a
huge lead while second place Smith
was a comfortable distance ahead of
Warch. Rice was being closed in on
by Evenson and Brenda Conner and
turned the throttle up to hang onto
fourth.
As the ra ce came to an end,
Peterso n took an easy win ahbd of
Smith and Warch, while Tina Zahrt
was the- lone Intermediate after
White Bros /Mission Yamaha rider
Lori ' H edstro m developed brake
problems on the secon d lap.
In the Women's Novice class
Bonny Collins showed her ability to
handle a high speed whoop section
and started to pull away fro m H i
Desert Kawasaki rider Sheila Moretz.
Moretz had her hands fu ll as Teal
Na kayama and KT M-mounted Valerie Roberts were breathing down
her back..Co llins left her competitors
in the d ust as Nakayama and Moretz
had a duel of thei r own. Collins
handl ed th e Novices wi th no problem s as Moretz a nd Nak a yam a
ro unded out the top three positions.

place 80cc Expert rider Dustin Evans
was soaring to score the overall
victory while Eric Chavira held off
