T he riders were confronted wi th a cha lle nging fivemile co urse. Mike Bailey gra bbed the early lead with Jim Dem ond, Crai g Goerner, a nd Karl G ro ve in clos e pursu it. Bailey a nd Goem er soo n ra n into m ech anical problems wh ich ended th eir da y, so Gunselma n inherited the lead bu t was un abl e to sh ak e Dem on d. At the finish th e top fo ur r iders were a ll within a minute of each o ther, completing nine lap s arou nd the course. Gunselman took th e win over Demond, with G ro ve a nd Allen Frei ho t o n his heel s. Team Scream endures in Mexican RR By George Peckham MONTERREY, MEXICO, FEB. 20 The Central Road Ra cin g Clubs' Team Scream fini shed first overa ll in the WERA/CRRC 4-Hour Endurance Ra ce held a t Mexi co 's Autodromo de Monterr ey race track. There were 22 entries on the grid for th e start of the race, a nd when starter Scott Schaefer wa ved th e gr een flag, Mexi co's Os car Ca stell anos on a Suzuki GSXRIIOO, a nd T exas rider Brian Graver , on a GSXR750 , jumped o ut in front as David T u ntland o n a no the r GSXR750 follow ed in third. Pro Star V T eam 's Castellanos and T eam Scream 's Graver were go in g a t it neck-and-neck. On the second la p Ca st ellano s was passed b y Grav er o n th e main straight. They pulled aw ay fro m everyone else a nd contin ued to swap the lead until th e first pit stop for Pro Star V. T eam Sc rea m then assumed a lead th ey would never relinquish . Wh en Scream 's Craig Gleason too k over his lap times in the 1:I1 's were th e quickest clock ed for the afternoon. Coming out of banked turn two uphill th e front end of Screams' GSXR750 was visibly pushin~, but it didn 't slow Gleason. Leading Middleweight Superbike was th e BMH rac ing en try o n a 600 H urricane, and at th e end of the first hour BMH was third overal l. Behind them was Graphtec Screen Printing aboard their Yamaha FZ600. Heading u p Middl eweigh t Prod uction was T eam Banzai's Hurricane 600. Banza i rode a consistently quick race to win their class . P inney a nd Willett tried to keep Sa la nder in sig h t as th e rest of th e pack fell off th e bl istering pace. The fi na l six spots fell to Melch io r, Pr osey, O rr a nd Jim Kocotas. In the 125cc Novice class Dal e G ra y dominated 38 o ther riders to win bo th motos.
