In the 250cc Pro class Sherman Oaks H onda rider Bob Kline took th e overa ll win with a 1-1 score. In th e first mota Klin e rod e a nearflawless race with no pr essure fro m behind. Paul Vlach was o n th e rear ' fender of Kline every lap in th e seco nd moto, waiting for an error th at never came. Andrews, Hand top Richfield AX By Peggy Adamic RICHFIELD, CO , FEB. 5-6 H onda riders Fred Andrews a n d David Hand were winners at the R ichfield Indoo r Mo tocr oss. An d re ws dominated Sa tu rd ay's acti on while Hand was the win ner in Frida y n ight's event. In Friday's fin al Andrews cras hed o u t with H and ta ki ng the wi n followed by H arold Robiso n and J oe Maurer. In th e Satu rday afternoon final it was once again Andrews and H and dicing for th e win with Andrews th e eventua l winner foll owed by Hand a nd Maurer. With 26 riders competin g Saturday night four seven-l ap heat races were required. Hand had to settle for second in heat on e behind Robison. . In heat two Steve Robinson inched out Barney Barnett at the checkers while Maurer took heat three from Steve Gilland. Andrews took th e victory in heat fo ur with J ohn Ru per behind in second. At the start of the fin al H an d rou ted hi s Honda into th e first turn first foll owed by Andrews, Gilland, Barnett and Ruper. Within a lap Andrews worked his way around H and and began pi cking off lapped riders within four laps of th e l O-lap race. Riders not knowing they were being lapped caused some problems for bo th Andrews and H and, but th e two weaved th eir way through traffic to the ' checke re d fl ag. Andrews grabbed th e win followed by Hand, while Gilland held onto third for the entire race. Maurer moved from a mid-pack star t to fini sh less than a bike len gth behind Gilland. Results FRI; t . Mann pulled a little space but Kitsch charged until he was sitti ng on Mann 's back door. As th e two leaders di ced, McElroy reeled th em in and left Kurtis Barron in th e distance to set the pace for the rest of the pack. Near th e end of the mow McElroy dov e by Kitsch on the ins ide and moved in on th e leader but didn 't get by. Mann clai med the win with McElro y and Kitsch no t far beh ind. Barron and William Dill ro u nded ou t the top five. Mann hol eshot ' mow two with Kitsch , McElroy, John Agin and Will iam Dzielak stacked behind. Mann, Kitsch and McElroy pulled sligh tly away lO battle for the lead. Midway through th e mota McElroy stopped dead and ended up pushing th e bike back to the pits. Kitsch put some moves on Mann and charged into the lead and claimed th e win with Mann moments behind. Dzielak, Agia and Ibill Wallin finished th ird through fifth, respectively. Mann appeared to have total cont ro l of th e 250cc A class. H e held hi s line to win th e first rnoto and left J ohn Reinholt to fight off Kitsch for second. In mow two Reinholt nailed the lead but had Mann churning up the track ri gh t behind him. Mann had to fold up his chances for the win because of a broken foot peg, as Reinholt claimed th e win followed by Kitsch and Jon McCabe. Mann did manage to finish sixth for third overa ll behind Reinholt and Kitsch. VPE/Boyesen Technical Center/ ScottiAn swer/Kal-Gard-sponsored McCabe head ed into th e first turn with Bob Sorrenson at his side at the start of th e first Open A moto, but John Am erman rocketed out between them to ride out front. McCabe passed Amerman on the first lap, then pulled away to cru ise to the mota win. Stahlman got the lead but at the start of the second mo ta McCabe plowed th ro u gh th e deep, sandy track and was soo n on Stahlman's rear tir e. County Race way and blew away the competit ion in co nvi nci ng style. Pike's eigh th -place start at the first turn in mota o ne was not what " I had in mind." he sai d when the race was over. " I reall y had to push hard to pas s th ese guys, th ey're fast and th e track was redesi gned with more jumps, so it was more like a supercross tra ck, but well prepared." After six laps int o th e 10 lap mota, Pike snuck by Dwayne Boyer, who finished third, and on the eighth lap passed Jim Martens for first over a double jump in front of the grandstands. In mota two , Hal Grady got the holeshot followed by Martens, Boyer, Pike and 16 other hard-charging experts. Pike worked up to first then pulled away for th e victory.
