Jones jams to Perris MX win By David Procida PERRIS , CA, J AN . 23 • Showing a strong European flair, Paul Jones sm ok ed to a pair of 250cc Pro class wins today a t Saturday SMX racing a t Perri s Raceway.'With the low a reas o f the track sti ll satu rated with T h ursday's heav y rains, th e P erris track crew put to gether a cha lle nging course that favor ed Jones' rid ing style. In moto one KTM-m ounted Pete 'Hart grabbed th e holes hot a n d jumped ou t to an early lead with Jones and Yamaha su p port rider Craig Davis on ly a heart-bea t behind. At the end of the seco nd la p H art had opened up a five-seco nd lead over J ones, wh o was being chased by Davis. Running in fou rt h was KTM -m ounted Ken J enkins, with Ulf J ohansson hot on hi s heel s. At mi d-mota J ones kicked in th e a fterb u rners a nd sta rte d to close the dis tance on H art, wh il e Davis stuc k to hi s rear fender. On la p 12 H art appeared behind J ones as th e two riders came fro m the back sectio n of th e track. Da vis was now chargi n g ' hard up beh ind Hart , but as the mot o came to a close J ones took th e win with H ar t a nd Davis a short distan ce beh ind him. In mot o two, J ohansson had the lead going into the first tu rn o n ly to ha ve H art power his way by on the outside line.
