Results Winner Scott Sherbert (837) sets Jesse Galle (664) up for a pass in the 125cc Beginner A main at the Clark County Arenacross. Eric Burkinshaw won the Pee Wee and Mini classes at Woodland . Jim Cottet and Den n is Sweeten. Sweeten rallied past the intermediate duo of Cottet and McKuhn, but by this tim e, Turnbull was long gone. Turnbull capped off th e clas s with an easy moto two victory, well a head o f Sweeten , Cottet and McKuhn, Cotter's third place finishes in both ou tin gs were good for a win in th e Intermediat e class. An overflow of 80cc Beginners were on hand, forcing qualifiers to sp li t th e grou p into two A a nd B main events . J eme G ill son won the A main for a sweep of both days of raci ng. In 125cc Beginner ac tio n three qualifi ers were required. H eat o ne went to Kawasaki rid er Eric Cu mm in gs. Reub en Sch ug to pped th e second, and th e th ird heats, the fin al heat went Shawn Lauer 's way after fending off a pesky Ward Bouslough. Whyte whips Clark County Arenacross By Derryl Anderson 32 RIDGEFIELD , WA, JAN. 22 Paul son 's backed Kevin Wh yte rode . two perfect motos to lake th e win in th e 250cc Intermediate cla ss of the aren across held in the Clark Co unty Fairgrounds ar ena. The track was in good co nditio n as a gigantic turnout of riders showed up. Todd Turnbull from Canada and Mark Bennett were riding with the Intermediates but being scored separat ely as th e 250cc Money class. Allen Pitts and Jeff Boom of the Open Mo ney class were al so scored by themselves. In th e first mota of th e 250cc Intermediates Pitts got the lead ahead of Turnbull, R ichi e Lee , Doug Gravelle, Why te and the others. By lap two Turnbull pa ssed Pitts and Whyte moved up a spot. Lee lost it and went through th e banners before gett ing back on track. Shane Don aca ~nd Gravelle rod e side-by-side for half a lap before Gr avelle fin all y took co nt ro l. At th e checkered flag It was ' Turnbull , Pitts, Wh yte, Bennett a nd the rest of the 250s.: T h e final mo to required o ne restart as everyone was super an xio us. O ut first was Turnb ull and Pi tts side-by-side. Beh ind th em was Wh yte, Gra velle, Donaca and th e o thers. Do wn the back stretch Turnbull pulled ahead but Pitts remai ned within five yards. Mean while Boom got under J ohn Marcotte. T he intermedi at e lead er, Wh yte, bu ilt up almos t a strai g htaway lead on G ravelle, wh o was running second ah ead of Donaca and th e others. With a lap to go Pitts dove under Turnbull but Turnbull seemed to sense the move as he too went to th e in side rather than use th e berm . Pitts go t sq ueezed out on ce more and slowed up in fru stration, whi le Wh yte went on by at the checkered flag. In order was Turnbu ll, Whyte, Pitts, Gravelle , D onaca , Boom and Marcotte. Wh yte was th e class winner over Gravelle and Don aca. In moto on e of the 125cc Interm ediate class Turnbull cont ro lled the lead from start to fini sh. Behind him off th e lin e was Chris Clark, J eff Bon et, Mik e H amness a nd Dennis McConnell. Bonet got by Clark and McConnell passed H amness. Fro m th ere o n th e p o si tion s we re un changed. T he fin al mo to was every bit as wild as th e first with T urn bull and Bonet side- bv -side o ff th e start. Short ly everyo ne fell into lin e a nd no th in g cha nged from there o n. Postmas prevail at Salem Arenacross' By Clay Light SALEM, O R, JAN. 29 The Postma brother team of Richard and Rus sell coll ected wins in the l 25cc Beginner A and 60cc Junior classes, respectively, during th e first of two ni ghts of arenacross racing at the Or egon State Fairgrounds. Richard Postma topped th e evenings ' la r gest class, th e 125cc Beginner , beating Yamah a-m ounted Marlin Hanson , Reuben Schug, Rom an Ross and Cra ig J oh annson. Russell Postma 's overa ll win came after dominat in g th e seco nd 60cc Junior moto , ta king th e rnoto after fending off Mik e Ulven and Doug McKuhn, winner of the first contest. Postma's 2-1 performances netted top brass while McKuhn took second via 1-3 rides. Rou nding out the top five were Ulven, Matt Williams and Andy Garrison . Todd Turnbull made his debut at th e facility a good o ne by winning th e 125 and 250cc Pro events. Turnbu ll's first task was demolish ing the l 25cc Pro competition, which didn't com e easily. Turnbull opened up a huge lead by the th ird lap and had a good thi ng going un til he crashed on the fifth lap. That put Kenny Ol sen into the lead , but after several laps Turnbull had picked off Ted Holt and Jeff Daily to settle into . second. With a lap 10 go Turnbull catapu lted over O lsen 's head on o ne of severa l tabletops to ta ke the win with Ol sen second and Holt third. Moto two again had Turnbull shooting into th e lead. Dail y held down second while Olsen and H olt looked for a way around. Daily's ride ca me to an early end aft er a cras h , whic h moved Ol son and H olt into second and third, but by this tim e Turnbull was long gone. Turnbull took th e checkered flag first for th e overa ll win via 1-1 rid es while H olt took seco nd after holding off Ol sen 's challe nges . Ol sen took third with 23 tallies. ' Turnbull ca me ri ght back to so undly thrash th e 250cc Pro clas s, wh ich ran combined with th e Intermedi ates and Juniors. Turnbull had a mu ch easier tim e in this class as intermediat e Kevin McCarthy was ' the Honda's rider's closest competition some three-quarters of. a la p back. Turnbull 's 1-1 sweep was good for a four-for-four win tally and top cash pa yoff. Pitts pounds Woodland Scrambles By Derryl Anderson WO O DLAND, WA, JAN. 24 H on da-mo unted Allen Pitts flew to two mo to wins to cash in on the Open Two-Wheel class of the scrambles held at Woodland Motocross Park. Beautiful weather and th e best track of the year greeted a large turnout of rid ers and spectators. Troy Yeo go t the ea rly lead in mot o one foll owed by Eddie Gerr ish , Pitts and Mike Morris. Pitts pow ered his way under Gerrish whi le sliding · th rou gh the sweeper. Entering turn four he sq ueezed under Yeo, pushed and shoved a little and went o n by. A very sur prised Yeo backed off for an ins tant and th en took off with Gerrish all over him. Gerrish was r idin ~ th e dayli ghts o u t o f hi s ma ch me but every time th ey got into the sweeper o r back stra igh t Yeo outpowered him. At the fin ish it was Pitts by 15 yards over Yeo , who was barely holding off Gerrish and then Morris. Pitts got the holeshot in the final moto ahead of Yeo, Gerrish and Morris. Pitts rod e flaw lessly with abou t 15 yards on th e others. No thing changed until the last lap when Gerrish pushed his way under Yeo for second. Norris was a close fourth. In the first moto of the 250cc class Gerrish got the lead ahead of season point leader Chris Dineen , Eric Loney and Dan Hansen . Gerrish went out to a 25-yard lead and Loney lost it entering turn three. At the fini sh it was G errish , Dineen, Hansen and the restarted Lon ey. Gerrish got th e lead in moto two ahead of Hansen , Din een and Loney. Dineen passed Hansen but they remain ed close right 10 th e end.
