Sweeten super at Timonium Indoor ST By Len Breech TIMONIUM, MD, NOV. 14 A pair of the Sweeten Ian won their s cond race each at the Baltimore County Trail Rider /Cockeysville Optimi t Club-sponsored indoor short track race at Timonium. Larry Sweeten won the 250cc £inal, when hi main rival, Dan Reichert got tangled up on the opening lap wi th another rider. wee ten .s nephew, Georgie Price, again dominated the I25cc class for the second straight week. While the Sweeten clan was taking wins, another member of a prominent local racing family, Charlie Majeski, scored his third straight 360cc win. Sweeten took Price's 250 to take the lead from Adam Weiss, race promoter Taylor White and Mike Mester. Richert got tangled up with Richard Reeves as they entered the third turn on the opening lap, and was almost a lap down when they got going. In a rare occurance, the top five remained upright and in the same spots throughout the 15 lap race. Jeff Webber jumped in front of Price, Billy Bromley, Todd Stith and Mike Klopp as the 125s screamed out of the second turn. But as they entered the first turn on the second lap, Price slipped under Webber for the lead. A few laps later Webber got squirrelly coming off the second turn, got going strdight when Bromley tapped him, but point leader Bromley fell. Whi.le this was going on, Price was pulling out to a convincing half a lap margin on hi Diamond Motor Sport -sponsored Kawasaki. At the start of the 80cc class Mike ponseller and Paul Southard jumped in front of Robert Miller and Jeremiah Alexander. on the third lap, Sponseller changed everythi.ng when he fell in the fourth turn. He was quickly up, and back in third by the sixth lap and starting to reel in Southard and Miller. With four laps left and the front trio trying to g t around a lapped rider, Sponseller went by them for the lead on the out id ,only to bobbl in the founh turn back to econd. With two laps left he tried to get under Southard in the third turn but tapped him, sending- Southard to the ground. pon eller picked up the win followed by Miller and Alexander. Joe White took the lead from Greg Boutwell, Rob mith and Majeski as they ran tire-to-tire in the opening laps of the 360cc final. White slipped on the fifth lap, dropping to fourth. The top three freight trained until about four laps from the end when Smith got under Boutwell entering the first turn but drifted slightly high. Majeski went into the lead and took his third straight win. In the 250cc Pro class Lew Woods grabbed the lead from Steye, Burkholder, Rodney Farris and Paul Crumling, with the latter two coming off the back row. Burkholder put his West's Cycle Shack Villa into the lead coming off the fourth turn on lap two, with Farris taking second a few laps later. When they had clear sailillg, Burkholder actually put distance on Farris. Wi.th about five laps left, Crumling took over third and got up on Farris· rear in the late laps, but he fell trying to get under him on the final lap. Results 50: 1. Paul Lynch (Vam); 2. Stump took the victory only a few turns from the finish afler moving up through the pack following a poor start and several mishaps on the course.
