II Yam ah a Pro Support rider La rry Ward, of Washington, dominated two Pro cla sses at the sixth round of the Yamaha Perpetual Gold Cup Series, held at Emerald Raceway' in Eu gene. Ward wo n four motos, easily topp in g bo th the 125and 25OCC. Pro classes. In th e Open Pro class, fellow Washingtonian Phil Larson captured both rno tos. Du e to a lat er- than-anticipated start, the 250cc and Open Pro classes were co mbi ned with th e Intermediates, which made th ings quite interesting. In both clases, it showed th at there are severa l Intrmediate . riders wh o shou ld be moved up to th e Pro classes. The first Open moto had local favorite Ri ck Gunderson leading Mik e Bruke, Scott Williams, Ted DeVol and Denny Fennell. Aftef a miserabl e start, L arson moved within striking ra nge of Gunderson to take th e win. . Larson wasted little tim e rocketing into the lead in moto two. After j ust one lap, Larson put a cozy margin . on Gunderson, who did th e same to Williams, who was doing all he could to shake off a pesky DeVol. Larson wrapped up th e overa ll with a I-I win, with Gunderson 's runnerup fin ish es good for the Intermediate win over Williams and DeVol. Fennell (2-2) and an inj ured Scott T yler were second and third overall. .Ward led T yler , Graves, Scott Steffy and Don Bisceglia around the two-mile course on th e opening lap of the first 250cc Pro contest. After two laps, Ward had a 10-second lead on Steffy, who had his hands full with Oregon 's Graves. Graves motored past Steffy, but Catching Ward was impossible; Ward's lead grew to 17 seconds at the finish. Graves and Steffy were second and th ird. . ' Graves gave Ward some competition at the start of the second moto, but by the seco nd lap Ward had built up an unsurmountable lead over Graves, Steffy and Tyler, who was riding with an injured leg from a pracnce bail-off. Ward won moto two , good for his first overall win, beating Graves (2-2), Steffy (3-3), Bisceglia (5-4) and T yler, who maintained his series point lead with 45 rides. In the same race , Mike Williams beat Montana's Jack Gabelhausen and Suzuki rider Jim Cottlet to take the win in the 250cc Intermediate class.
