Travelers Rest MX

TRAVELERS REST, sc, SEPT. 13
Eddie Johnson moved up from the
250cc Novice class to the 250cc
Amateur class and took tlie competition to the cleaners today at Riverside Speedway. Tony Bridges came
the closest to Johnson to take second.
Danny Gravely handily won the
Senior Mini class on his Suzuki.
David Pena returned to racing after
being sidelined for nearly a year with
a knee injury and brought home
second place. Kenny McAlister was
third.
Philip Hayes nailed down a convincing Junior Mini win, leaving
second spot to Chris Pena and third
to Freddie Heath.
Jason Hartin ran away with the
50cc race from start to finish. Trey
Justice, Bryan Head, Paul Justus and
Chris Barnwell battled for second
wlth Justus eventually taking the
position with a pass on Justice 20
feet before the finish.

McDowell wins

WHITE CITY, IL, SEPT. 4
Californian Bryan McDowell started
off the Labor Day weekend by
winning the Expert portion of the
Mid-States Dirt Riders Club promoted half mile at White City. Erik
Graybeal and Audie Huff won the
Junior and Pro-Am classes.
Pro-Am heats fell to Alan Powers
and Huff and the semi was won by
Huff.
The first Junior heat was won by
Recil Hart over Craig Jonson. The
second heat saw Mark Corsetti lead
John Faulkner home.
John Champlin passed Steve
Steele on the last lap to win the first
Expert heal. McDowell passed Tim
Mertens early to win heat two.
Erik Graybeal took the first Junior
semi over Corsetti and Faulkner.
Johnson and Hart ran away with the
second semi while Matt Yoho passed
Wes Long on the last lap for third.
Mertens led the first Expert semi
until the last lap when McDowell
pushed his 'H-D Motor Co.lShoei/

BirdlTerry Knight-sponsored Harley-Davidson to the win. Mertens

Alan Powers led the Pro-Am final
around the first lap ahead of Huff,
Gary Wielt and Todd Bridges. Lap
two saw Huff in front and pulling
away. Bridges moved from fourth to
second but couldn't close on Huff's
Tote Gray/Chuck Gardner/Mom &
Dad-sponsored Harley-Davidson
and settled for second over Powers,
Wielt, John Sommers, Todd Booten
and Brett Donahue.
Johnson got the holeshot in the
.Tunior final only to be mvoed back
hy Graybeal on his Shoei/Kal-Gard/
D-C Cycle/Sprocket Spec./Mom &
Dad-sponsored Wood-Rotax. Graybe~ and Johnson settled into the first
two positions while Hart was holding Corsetti off in third. Graybeal
and Johnson finished in order but
Cor<:tti slipped by Hart on the last
1"",. Yoho and Long rounded out the
top six.
The Expert final belogned to
McDowell from the start with
Mertens, Beck and Steele in tow. The
top three positions were set but Steele
was slipping back. Steve Champion
took over fourth with Tom Colson,
Ted Taylor, Randy Triplett, Steele,
Jon Champlin and Dave Feggestad
stringing out behind.

Turpin tops
Hillbilly Hills MX

MACON, GA, SEPT. 13.
Suzuki's Keith Turpin scorched the
Hillbilly Hills MX course en route
to perfect scores in both A divisions
in round two of the Georgia Cycle
Suppl y. GA/AL Fall MX Series.
Todd Neal won both 125cc B motos
by a wide margin, maintaining his
perfect series record.
Keith Turpin (30) leads runner-up' David Kelly on his way to winning
the 250/0pen A class at Hillbilly Hills. Turpin also won the 125 A class.
Turpin made it look easy in both
125cc A mOlOS as he ran away from
the field aboard his TRP-tuned
Suzuki. Honda's Mark Crozier gave
Turpin a ' rief challenge but eventually han .) settle for third overall
behind Darryl Heisler in a tied score.
In the final 250cc/Open A moto,
first moto winner Turpin got a
midpack Start. By the second lap,
Turpin had relieved David Kelley of
the lead and rode on to the win. Joe
Rogers carved out 3-5 finishes to
claim third overall ahead of Heisler
and Rick Lindell.
Hillbilly Hills track owner Kevin
Mathews led the first Open B moto
from start to finish and was leading
moto two when he stalled his engine.
Mathews lost three positions while
struggling to restart but, once underway, Mathews let out the stops and
regained the lead to win with a
perfect score. Steve Vollo's 4-2 tally
put him on top of a three-way tie
for second over Kevin Brule' (3-3) and
Dan Lipscomb (2-4).
Ryan Reynolds took a hard-earned
1-1 victory in 65cc Mini racing as he
had to fight off challenges from
Danny Haynes and Jason Grier.
Grier claimed runner-up h.onors via
his 3-2 finishes over Haynes' 2-5
score.
Matt Shue easily won both Junior
Mini motos while Reynolds and
Dwayne Bone battled for second
overall. Bone held the second spot
ahead of Reynolds in their second
moto start-to-finish dice to take the
honors in a tied score.
Shue returned in Senior Mini
action to place third overall behind
runner-up Brian Raymond and
winner Chance Mathews.

Jedynak wins pair at
Sheffield Trials

SHEFFIELD, IL, SEPT. 12-13
Zbigniew Jedynak rode his Honda
to the top of the Expert ranks at the
Throttle Nutts M/C sponsored two
day trials. This event was sanctioned
by AMAIDistrict 17.
Jedynak, sponsored by Imperial
Service Systems and Honda of Des
Plaines, not only claimed the overall
honors on both days, he moved into
the number one slot in the District
17 point standings.
Saturday's event consisted of 7
sections with 4 loops. Jedynak lost
92 marks, with his best score coming
in the third loop. There he lost 14
points. Wade'Theisen made the trip
from Indiana a respectable one. He
dabbed his way to second place with
a score of 115. Theisen rode a
Yamaha. Finishing a close third was
Fantic-mounted Jim Altemus. He
carded a 117.
The Throttle utts laid out eight
sections fdr Sunday's event with four
loops. Again it was Jedynak atop the
Expert standings. His winnin~ score
was 70. Altemus moved up In the
standings, posting a 102 for second
place. Rounding out the top three
was Doug Turner. He turned in a
121 point ride aboard a Honda.
The Junior class had a tie for first
place. Two ri.ders had 79 points each.
Stan Bloniarz took the overall after
carding more ones than]im Emmerson. They both had five cleans.
Bloniarz is sponsored by Imperial
Service System and Honda of Des
Plaines. Emmerson rode a Fan tic.
Chuck Blose finished third on a
Yamaha with a score of 86.
On Sunday Clark Runyard celebrated his birthday by winning the
Junior class. His final tally was 71.
Runyard was riding a Yamaha.
Another tie breaker had to be used
to see who would finish second and
third. Once again it was Bloniarz and
Emmerson, but this time it was
Emmerson coming out on top with
one more clean then Bloniarz.
The Novice class had 10 riders on
Saturday, but only four on Sunday.
