Peter JaS1 Carroll, Yaglosld double at Clifford MX By Thorn Veety CUFFORD,PA, J ULY 19 Brian Carroll and Jeff Yagloski each came away from Hurricane Hills Sports Center with a pair of victories, Carroll took four moto wins to top th e 125 and 250cc Expert classes, while Yagloski won both M ini Expert rnotos as well as topping th e 125cc Amateur class with a pair of win s. . Carroll took his Gear/CPR/CRP/ Action Photos-sponsored Kawasaki to th e point in th e first 125cc Expert rnoto, with Yamaha-mounted Lee McIlvane pushing him in second, followed closely by Dan Congd on, J immy McIl vane, Dave Perone. an d Dan Portz. Carroll an d McIlvane held first a nd second with Jimmy McIl vane m ov ing into third with three laps to go. They finished in that order with Portz m oving into fourth ah ead of Congdon a nd Perone. Moto two again had Carroll in fro nt, wh ile Jim Mcllvane held a strong seco n d. Lee McIlvane took th ird ahead of Congdon, Portz a nd Perrone. Rob Eichlin grabbed th e holeshot in th e first 250cc Expert moto with Carr oll in seco n d, followed by Da ve Eckhart, Boyesen-sponsored Tommy Hain es, Jimmy McIlvane and Mike Twiford. Carroll was on th e ga s a nd powered by Eic h lin on the thud lap. Eichlin held a stro ng seco nd over Twiford wh o had worked hi s way into th ird a head of Jim Mcll va ne. Twifo rd cras hed wi th two laps to go putting McIl van e into third a t th e checkers. Eic h lin gassed hi s way to th e poi nt in the final m o to, Twiford was in second, followed by McIlvane, Carroll and Chuck Weinberg. Carroll moved into third on lap two, around Twiford on lap four, then set his sights on Eichlin and began to reel him in. With two laps to go, Carroll made the pass gi ving him th e lead and wi n. Eichlin took second with Twiford third ahead of Weinberg, J immy McIlvane, Messerman a n d Eckhart. Yamaha-mounted Ya gl o sk i powered to the early lead in th e first 125cc Amateur m oto wit h Jason Novos helski second fo llowed by Tony Camaioni, Ma tt Bond an d Mark Pa tterson. Bond moved into seco nd when Novoshe ls k i a nd Ca maioni came togeth er a n d bo th en ded up taking Hurricane Hills soil sa m p les. John Walton took over th ird ahead of Tom Perrone and Danny Ami ano. Yagloski held Bond o ff for th e entire six-lap moto to tak e th e win. Walton took third ahead of Perone, Patterson and Camaioni. It was Y agloski at th e point followed by Patterson, Bond, Camaion i, Amiano and Novoshelski at the start of rnoto two. Vets Dan Lees a n d Herb Nachtigall were close beh ind, as well as 250cc Pro Travis Metz a nd yet even anoth er Vet, Steve Henry. Metz quickl y di splaced Nachtigall an d' began pressuring Lees. Lees fenced off th e determin ed Metz for severa l laps, but Metz relentlessly hounded him , then for ced th e pass to pursue McAli ster . McAl ister , Metz, and Lees put co nsiderable distance o n the p ack as Metz ch arged to wr est first aw a y fro m th e weaken ed McAl ister . McAl ister rode smoothly, desp ite th e pressure, 10 co me back a nd take the win with Metz onl y a few feet behind, an d Lees the firs t Vel. McAlister topped the seco nd 250cc Vet Pro moto, but had hi s hands full wi th th e ch allenges of Lees, then Metz, un til Metz bailed hard in th e whoops. Metz got back up in time to save second. Lees cruised home for th e Vet win. In 125cc Pro action, Larry Jackson pulled the holeshot with Hans Kirschner, Darren Spiers, McAlister and Jamie Steelsmith clashing for better position. Kirschner hammered past Jackson, wh ile McAlsiter knifed by Spiers to challen~e Jackson. McAlister found a line around J ackson , who was ex p er ie nci n g en gine problems , and set his sights o n Kirschn er. Kirschner and McAl ister di sh ed it o u t for the res t of th e rnoto, with McAl ister chargin g by to. take the win. McAl ister co m m an ded th e secon d l25 cc P ro m oto from th e onset, with Kirschner and Jackson threaten ing, but never able 10 gain th e advantage over McAlister. GREELEY, CO, J ULY 18 The seven ra ce SRAC Su percross Series made th e fourth stop here tonight a nd saw two new winners: LeeVern Berr y and Tim Buchli, both took th eir first su percross wins of the year . Berry led Buchli and Stacey Cook in the first 125cc Pro moto from startto-finish. Cook led round two all the way with Berry running second. No passing occurred in these top positions in either moto from the drop of the gate. . Buchli came back in th e 250cc Pros. Berry .gated first in moto one a head of Buchli, Dave Newell and Cook. The top three held positions until lap six when Newell jumped past Buchli for second. Newell made th e identical move to take the lead on th e next, a nd la st lap. Shortly th ereafter , Buchli stuffed p ast Berry 10 fin ish seco nd beh ind Newell. At th e sta rt of rnoto two, Newell and Kip Sandell ta ngled an d both went down in a heap in turn one. Cory Perriton wa s grabbing the lead ahead of Jim Mitchell , Berry and Buchli. Perriton and Berry collided after a double jump, allowing Mitchell to take th e lead. Once out front, Mitchell pulled away from Berry and Buchli. Mitchell took th e win, wh ile positions behind changed, with Buchli finishing second ahead of Cook a n d Berry. Newell sliced through traffic after his crash 10 finish fifth for second overall. Newell and Sandell squared off again in the Open Pros WIth Newell leading moto one from flag-to-flag. Sande ll started fifth and took five laps to reach second, but Newell wa s lon~ gone. Sandell gated right behind Newell in moto two and cut inside for th e lead a few turns later. " Newell sh adowed Sandell for five laps then cut under Sandell when the twosome ' had co m e up on some sl ower rid ers .
