Key unlocb win at 81acldJawk RR By Larry Lawrence S.BELOIT, IL, JULY 19 Veteran road racer Ed Key showed the younger riders the way around Blackhawk Farms road race course by taking a convincing victory in the C Production class at the WERA Sprint races. Key passed pole-siller SCOll Zarnpach on the third lap of the 10 lap sprint, then cruised on to the $1500 first place prize from Honda. Several racers made the 300 mile trip from the AMAlCCS race the day before at Grattan, Michigan, to try to double the race winnings. Key was included in that group. Gary Gibson had injured himself in the Michigan race the day before and lent assistance to Key for the Blackhawk race by letting him use his motorcycle. The Hurricane was fast and key made short work of the rest. of the' field to take the easy victory. Zampach held Key off for three laps but explained that his machine was new and not quite as fast as he would like it to be. Zampach's machine was still fast enough for second place. Controversy arose when Boonie KnOll finished third on the track but was later disqualified due to illegal airbox modifications. Dave Barnard made a triumphant return to the winner's circle by winning the B Production race on a brand new Suzuki GSXR750. Barnard, who a couple of years ago was considered one of the rising stars of WERA roadracing, has been plagued by running sub-par machinery recently. "It feels good to finally get a competitive machine," said Bernard. "The GSXR handles so well I can't believe it. Maybe now I can continue where I left off two years ago." Results 40 A PROD EX: 1.
