Prior steals Riverside Short Track win By Loren and Barbara Williams TRAVELERS REST, SC, APR. II Eric Prior inherited the lead and the victory in the Open Flat Track class in Stepp Mill at Riverside Speedway action. Prior took the lead when front runners tangled in the late stages of the race. Tommy Sisson and Chris McCros· key held the top two spots in the early going of the Open Flat Track main event, with Prior a very close third. In the closiJ;lg laps of the race Sisson and McCroskey crashed in tUTI) one and Prior narrowly avoided the two downed riders. Prior wen t on to score the win as Kirk Hayes, Kenneth Barr and George Galloway filled out the top four. ~ Motocrosser Robby Neeley flashed to the wins in the 125 and 250cc Flat Track classes. Second spot in the 125ct ranks went to Chuck Blackmon, third was Josh Keys. Galloway and Tim Harmon filled out the top three in the 250cc division. In the motocross action, Bobby Gilbert got the holeshot in the 125/ 250cc Amateur class and held the lead for the entire race. Phillip Caldwell had recovered from a spill during practice enough' to finish second. Chuck Blackmon, riding the same Honda that he rode in the flat track event, won the 125cc Amateur class, with Steve Howard chasing. Chris Faust lost a squeaker to Marvin McCarson during the Open/ Enduro main. Faust's Husky stalled in a corner on the last half of the last lap, allowinR McCarson to motor into the front spot. Polson bags Boyd Short Track win By Bill Creese BOYD, TX, APR. 18 Trace Polson nailed down the vic· tory in the Open Pro class at Boyd Raceway's short track. Polson held off ·determined efforts by Bubba Bentley and Andy West to record tlle victory. West grabbed the holeshot in the main event followed closely by dashfor·cash winner Michael Hale and Polson. Hale threw away second when he crashed in turn four on lap one. Polson moved up to challenge West for the lead and worked his way by on lap four. Gunn goes three for four at Firebird By Michael Ross CHANDLER, AZ, APR. 12 Apparently Kye Gunn is out to make a name for himself as the toughest, most determined rider at Firebird Raceway where he raced four classes and nearly won all of them during the Phoenix Road Racing Organi· zation's third race of the season. . Gunn's first victory came in the Stock Production race which gridded all displacement classes for a single· wave start. Kye blasted into the lead early in .the race and sprinted to the finish line aboard his Suzuki of Tucson/Sparks Cycle/Buds Out Back/Doll Cottage·sponsored Suzuki GSXR750. Hot on Gunn's tail was MRA racer Geoff Cesmot, who finished second in the Heavyweight class.
