Although Staten was never seriously challenged for the lead, two riders, Honda-mounted Mark Brooks and Suzuki rider Alan Olson kept the chase close as they battled (or the runner-up slot. Brooks' was the (aster in round one, but Olson charged back in the second go-round to engage in a passing duel that Brooks narrowly decided on the final lap to finish second overall. Keller cleans up at Raceway Park MX By Rosanne Lukaitis ENGUSHTOWN, NJ, MAR. 21-22 American Honda and 27 Tri State Honda dealers participated in the inaugural Honda Big Bucks Motocross Shoot out. JoJo Keller took home as big share of the $8000 Pro-Expert purse at the two day event by winning the 250cc and Open Expert classes. The 250cc Expert final was the 18th moto of the day and it was Lachowicz who took the noleshot, leaving Keller and Carlo Coen in close. pursuit. Chris Coleman crashed early in the (irst lap, but quickly remounted and only lost a (ew spots. Bill LiJes had a bad start, but worked his way up to (ourth by the end of the first lap. Lap two saw Keller, Mark Lachowicz, Barry Carsten, Liles and Keith Watson filling out the top five. By the sixth lap Keller still held onto the lead, but not without some pressure (rom Liles. Side-by-side, Liles and Keller traded the lead several times and they started to pull away from the rest o( the pack. By the end of this exciting 12-lap race Keller held (or the win, Liles was second and Coleman took a welldeserved third. Keller grabbed the holeshot in the (irst Open Expert moto with favorite Mickey Kessler in second. Keller was soon lapping back markers as Kessler put on a charge and got by John Thompson to take over second. Three quarters' of the way into the moto Liles worked his way by Thompson and moved into third. Keller held on for the win with . Kessler taking second and Liles third. Kessler took an early lead when the gate dropped in the final race. Steve Desiderio was holding onto second, but lost it to Keller in the early part of the race. Thompson took third shortly after that and the first three. racers began pulling away (rom the rest o( the pack. Keller started to close in on the leader, but Kessler skillfully held him 0[£ (or a short time. Keller moved by Kessler and rolled on for the win.
