By Terry Whytal SUNNYMEAD, CA, MAR. 29 Perfect weather greeted the nearrecord crowd of riders and spectators at round two of the SMXlYamaha California Classic event at DeAnza. Yamaha rider Jeff Jennings combined a 1-3 mota score lO take the day's top purse money in the 250cc Pro class. . . Jennings used a pair of good starts to his advantage as he led much of the day despite intense pressure from KTM pilot Todd Campbell in moto one and Honda rider Mike Brown in the second moto. Two other top competitors, Suzuki Country's Tony Spear and Honda-mounted Kevin Allman tangled in turn two of the opening round and neither was able to move into the top 10. But in the second mota Allman and Spear joined the leaders in an intense five-rider duel for the lead that wasn't decided until the final lap with Brown and Allman slipping past Jennings as Campbell dropped to fourth and Spear settled for fifth. The overall win went to Jennings with Campbell's 2-4 score good for second ahead of Brown. Kawasaki rider Ian Roe rode consistently lO finish fourth ahead of Suzukimounted Chuck Whitmore. Cagiva factory rider Mike Healey provided the dazzle in the l25cc Pro race as he powered to the first malO win over Honda pilot Mike Pascarella and out-dueled Cagiva teammate Mike Young for the second moto win. Earning the second overall payoff was Kawasaki rider Bryan Emig with a 3-4 tally with Pascarella third.
