CA 91506 1---(818) 845-8738---' James Hardy (551 leads Senior Mini class overall winner Hank Moree (371 early in the first moto at Hell Hole Creek"s motocross in South Carolina. Moree won both motos. rried to leap back into the lead right at the finish line, but missed by a wheel width. Broesel was a tight third. Qualls read the starter perfectly again and got the holeshot in molO two, this time with Broesel on his back. It was Crosby'sturn lo figh this way out of midpack, but he never got any farther than the first turn. Several riders went down in front of him and took him along. When the pile untangled, Crosby had a badly bent front wheel. He was forced to SlOp and rry srraightening it out by twisting it against a rree. By the time he got rolling, he was a lap down and out of contention. Meanwhile, up in front, Qualls and Broesel were having their own race. They rapidly pulled away from everyone else, adding several seconds per lap to the gap. Rightat the end of lap two, Broesel drove under Qualls in a tight corner and came up with the lead. Broesel held off every attempt by Qualls to regain the lead, includinga heroic leap over the lastjumpof the race. It failed again and Qualls took another second, this time behind Broese!. Both riders had a total of four points, but the second molO determines the winner and Broesel took the overallrrophy. Another exciting small-bore battle raged in the 125cc Intermediate race. Duane Benner took the holeshot with Scott Murphy in tow. Murphy tried repeatedly to get around Benner but was always held at bay. Until the last lap. A heroic leap put him in the right place at the right speed and he broadslid past Benner lo take the lead at the start of the last lap. Murphy clung tightly to this new advantage and took the first molO win: The 125s were running in a combined event with 250s and 500s. Benner and Murphy put their 125s ahead of the pack as the gate fell, but an Open class bike roared past in the first tum. Murphy and Benner appeared rrapped behind the big bike until the end of lap four. Ben_ner passed the large bike on the fly over a table-top jump. Murphy followed suit butdidn'tslow for the turn which came up right after the jump. He was able to cut under Benner and exchange that momentum for the lead. Once there, he stayed there and took the second molO too, for the overall 125cc Intermediate win. Results PEE WEE B: 1. Jerry Aleman (Yam); 2. Chris Thumstrom (Yam); 3. Levi Blue Brand (Yam). II Round one of the 4th Annual AMA Carolina Winter MX SerIeS saw Jason Coleman and Robby Neeley emerge with dou ble class victories in a day of close racing at Hell Hole Creek MX Park. Coleman came away with three moLO wins and top honors in the 125 and 250cc B dIvisions while Neeley romped in to win the Senior and Open A classes. Freewheeling Honda/Maxima/" Krause-backed Coleman led from the gate at the start of the first 250cc B moLO but in the first turn Coleman came LO a halt when another bike's front wheel wedged under the rear fender of Coleman's machine. Coleman recovered from the delay and went on lo win the moto over Eddie Almond. Moto two saw Coleman win easily to net a perfect score over Almond's 2-2. In the firstl25cc B molO, Coleman got a beautiful holeshot and cruised LO the moLO win. Great Britain's Paul Malin, who is visiting the U.S. for the winter, soon moved up to challenge Bryan Rice in second. The Rice/Malin duo tangled on lap three and restarted at mid pack. At the flag, Rick was third with Malin rrailing in fourth. Kawasaki/Clover/Dunlop-backed Malin took the lead in molO two and held on for the win despite pressure from Coleman. Coleman's overall win was secure with a 1-2 tally while Malin's 4-1 earned runner-up honors over Joel Grant and Rice. The first molO of the 125cc A racing was certainly theday's highlight. Robbie Taylor and Mark Spriggle battled for the lead while Aaron Bollinger and Brian Caroll put on a high-altitude display over a. tough double jump. With Spriggle breathing down his neck, Taylor held the lead until the 15 minute mark when Taylor collided with a lapped rider and went down. Spriggle led the remaining five minutes while Taylor came back to fipish third:JIigh-flying Bollinger held third until a rough landing sidelined him for the day. Carroll of New Jersey recovered from a crash at the start and finished fourth.
