Gerrish ran all over Hansen looking for an opening that wasn't happening. Finally Clark drove hard through the sweeper and flew by Hansen over the jump. Clark went out LOa 15-yard lead, while Gerrish was pushing Hansen to the limit. The crowd was going wild as the threesome chased each other and left the others behind. With a lap-and-a-half to go, Gerrish pushed his way by Hansen and started to reel in Clark at an unbelievable rate. Gerrish surprised Clark when Gerrish moved right next to Clark heading for the checkered flag. Gerrish slid through the right hander full out and beat Clark by feet at the flag. Behind them in order was Eilts, Clayton, S~ires, Norman, Samagai and Cummmgs. In the final moto, Gerrish fouled a plug before the taTl and barely got it changed in the two minutes aBoted. At the start, Gerrish squeezed out a lead into the first comer as Clark followed. Clark got out of shape, however, andju tas he was straightening out someone nai led him and most of the class ran into them resulting in a pile up. Luckily everyone made the restart. Again Gerrish grabbed the holeshot but a third of the class piled up again. Everyone was so on edge by now that they decided to run the following class, while the 250s regrouped. This time Gerrish got the holeshot followed by Clark, Norman, Clayton, Swires and the others. Gerrish ran with about 10 yards on Clark, who had about 25 yards on ClaYLOn, Norman, Hansen and the rest. The super showmen freight trained the rest of the way to the finish in the following order: Gerrish, Clark, ClayLOn, Norman, Hansen, Swires, Samagai, Cummings and Eilts. Results WEE PEE WEE: 1. Walker wins Montrose MX By Gary Crider FAYETTEVILLE, NC, JAN. 4 The opening round of the Southeastern MX Association's 4th Annual Carolina Winter Series at Montrose MX saw Tim Terry and Hank Moree dominate the action in the Open Pro and Senior Mini divisions, respectively. Over 230 entrants from nine states and Great Britain were on hand for the event. Kevin Walker of Virginia showed consistent top form as he wrestled the 125cc Amateur victory away from Great Britain's Paul Malin and Bobby Houser of North Carolina. Walker led every lap of the first moLO while Houser stayed close to finish second. Malin gated poorly but fought through traffic and finished third. Malin got a good stan in moLO two and took over the lead during the first lap. On lap two Houser and Walker moved up LO the second and third positions, respectively, to make it a three-way fight for the lead. The Houser/Walker duel was fierce as Walker tried LO get by Houser for the second place finish he needed to win overall. Their dice lasted until the last lap when Walker slipped past Houser and finished )·2 for top honors over Malin's 3-1. Houser's 2-3 netted third. Houser came back in the 250cc Amateur class and won the opening mOLOafter initial leader Billy Howell crashed from the point po ition on lap two. Howell remounted in sixth and salvaged a third place finish behind Eric Rogers. Houser was knocked down in a fifth-turn melee after the start of the
