Turp'in notched four runaway wins in the 125 and 250cc/Open A motos .while Kelley turned a pair of bad starts into a pair of second place finishes in 250cclOpen A action. Fox/Dunlop-backed Turpin quickly took over the first 250cc/Open A moto lead while Kelley spent the early laps moving his Yamaha of Prattville/Answer-backed YZ from 10th to fifth where his progress was slowed by a tenacious Tommy Martin. After a two-lap dice, Kelley got past and set his sights on the Rick Lindell/Joe Rogers duo. Kelley soon dispatched Rogers and hounded Lindell for one-and-a-half laps. Kelley then drove under Lindell in a highbanked left-hander. The pair crested the following camel-back jump sideby-side and, in the next turn, Kelley took over second spot. Kelley pulled away from Lindell in the remaining three laps but Turpin was long gone. Turpin holeshot the second moto and set sail while Kelley got another poor start. Laps three through six saw Kelley locked in fourth position behind the tight duo of Lindell and Martin. Martin eventually dropped Lindell to third and Kelley followed Martin's move past Lindell. With two laps remaining in the moto, Kelley passed Martin to finish second. Martin' was 'thitd'overa1T in a tied sCore over t.indell.
