California; McElroy took the win. Jones was the first Senior and Scott Watkins came through first 80 with a big lead. At the end of lap two, Waller had made up another 45 seconds on Knight, and King was pulling out a good lead on Barkley. At the end of lap three, Knight was. a little under twO minutes ahead of Waller, and Barkley had narrowed King's lead to about 30 seconds. By race end Waller had pulled LO within 47 seconds of a disappointed Knight to take the overall win and eries championship. King held on to win the 200cc class championship. Knight was 250cc class champion, Tim Howell Open class champ, Chri McGergor 125cc class winner, Scott Watkins 80cc class champ, and Pat J ones took the Senior class cham pionship. TMC Park MX win to McCreary PORTLAND, T ,A G. 17 Transouth Motocross Club racers enjoyed a break in the ummer heat and record fields posted for both the Junior and 250cc class moLOS at TMC Park. In the mall bore opening moLO, sea on points leader Scotty Grave battled with Ja on McCreary with the win going LO Kawasaki-mounted McCreary.. When the gate dropped on the second Junior moto, McCreary pulled the holeshot and led all the way to the finish. Graves pulled the rest of the field along to take second. In the 250cc class, Rob Davis battled with the day's largest field and the lead switched nearly every lap of the fir t moLO. Yamaha-mounted Je[£ Kearns took thewin, followed closely by Tony Zimmerlee, Davi , Marty Rittenberry and Fred Thomason. The second moLO saw not one rider repeat his first moto performance. With the shuffling of positions, Davis came home the overall winner with his 3-1 score. Zimmerleeearned second overail honors with his 2-3 tallv and he was followed by Keams in 'third overall, Rittenberry in fourth and Thomason in fifth. Results AUTO: 1. Roy Hunter (Hon); 2. Britain wins Baylands MX war By Mike Vancil FREMONT, CA, AUG. 29 Jesse Britain took a pair of Kawasaki KX machines to four victories in the 125 and 250cc Intermediate classes at the weekly CMC-sanctioned night motocross and in the process showed all his competitors that when he's healthy and the machines properly prepped that he is near im possible to catch. In the l25cc first moto clash Britain powered to an easy holeshot and proceeded to style his way around for the entire seven laps. The s cond out· ing of the 125s saw him take it easy off the line and work up to the lead by the second lap. Mark My r on a CR Honda from tockton got the clo est to anta Cruz's Britain with a pair of second place finishes. The 250cc Intermediate cia action was included with the Juniors, but it only took the two Intermediates a half lap to migrate to the front. First it was Mickey 0' haughne yon his Stockton based KX and in second came Britain, also KX mounted. On the second lap Britain took over with an aerial pas~Hhe jt:rmp' on th~ high-speed back straight. Moto two for th is class was Ie s of a challenge for Britain a he got off the line hot and led from gate drop to checkers. It was in this moto, unfortunately, that excellent Junior clas racer Ty Arrigoni from Los Gatos got off hard and reinjured his leg. Arrigoni had just returned to ra ing a (ew weeks ago from an injury and is now expected LO be out o( a tion for a couple weeks. In other cia s action Phi Gribnau By James Gillis SACRAMENTO, CA, AUG. 29 A cool August night made for excellent race conditions under the lights of Sacramento Raceway and when the motos were over it was Scott-McElroy taking the featured Pro class. Kawasaki-mounted Greg Sheehan pulled out the lead through the first lap of moco one, but wa quickly overtaken by Honda-mounted McElroy. McElroy then had LO fight off Greg Tirhiemer, who passed Sheehan on the second lap. The three riders had a tight and fast moto, with McElroy taking the win ahead of Tirhiemer and Sheehan. Moto two produced an even faster pace. Dennis Redding pulled the holeshot and McElroy was in second 0[£ the line. McElroy pa sed Redding before the first lap ended. Ryan, Wann star at Baylands MX By Mike Vancil FREMONT, CA, AUG. 27 Rick "Fly-n" Ryan powered to a double moto viclory at the regular Wednesday night Bay··lanas Motocro s A sociationsponsored races. Ryan's rides were accentuated with midair cross-ups and tyling po es LO thrill the trackside spectators. Best of the rest in the clas was Jack Hulse on his Kawasaki. In other class action young Ryen Wann was the stylish favorite in the 250cc Intermediate clas and he put LOgether a 2-1 performance to snatch vicLOry away from Brian' Patterson and his Honda. Wann has not been a Baylands regular this ea on but his few appearance have been pectacu- lar. First moto action saw Patterson get a good start and keep the lead the entire distance. Wann apparently learned the new course in quick lashion while following Patterson, and was able to take the lead in moto two. Patterson kept the pressure up, but could not get clo e enough LO pass. Je se Britain had LO settle for third as the Wann and Patterson battle put him quite a distance back. Special prizes offered by PJ-I Lubricants in conjunction with the Pit SLOP of Hollister and gifts by MoLO World in San Lorenzo went LO Rick Alves and Geoff Shenk in the 250cc Beginner class and to Stan Lundquist in the 125cc Junior class. Andrews sweeps MSTMX By Peggy Adamic MALVER ,OH, AUG. 24 Yamaha Support rider Fred Andrews was back in action for the first time since his July 13 injury during the Lake Sugar Tree National MX. Andrews. who had suffered three broken ribs and a punctured lung, returned LO Moto Sport Trails and continued LO dominate the 25Occ/Open A class by sweeping both moLOS. Bell, HRP/Smith Goggles/Andrews Cycles/CTI Brace/Hom bre InternationaliSilkolene/Answer-sponsored Andrews grabbed the lead followed by Dave Hand and Ed Behn. Behn quickly began fading to mid· pack and Kawasaki Team Green/KalGard/Scott Goggles/Gear Raceware/ Kick Stand Competition Accessoriessponsored Dale Spangler moved into third. Andrews and Hand ran one-two for the nine-lap moLO while Spangler and Honda-mounted Todd Richards battled back and forth for third with Spangler winning the battle and Richards fini hing fourth. In the second moLO, Hand was in front through the first turn but was caught looking back a he rounded the turn. Andrews had gotten tuck in the gate and was back in last place and Hand quickly found him elf in sixth. With Andrew and Hand behind, Richards grabbed the lead, (01lowed by Greg Wheeler and Brian Smith. Spangler passed Smith with Andrews moving through the pack of . rider, following Spangler around Smith. Andrews took over the lead by 'the tart of the third lap. Spangler moved past Richards into second while Hand took· over fourth from Wheeler. The five riders held their positions for the remainder of' the moto. Honda-mounted Denny Swartz took double moto wins in the Open B class. Swartz went unchallenged as he led both moLOS from the drop of the gate LO the checkered flag. Swartz was one of three riders winning double classes as he also swept both moto of the enior One class.
