With some wild-eyed sliding, Reppert ran through the pillaging bikes with Hicks second over Felicio. John Payton looked to be ready. to win his first Division Three after newcomer Ron Barrow led early, but halfway through, here comes Joe Leonard with some passing and his first win of the y~ar. Waller hot at Scorcher HS By Joe Ferguson BRUCE, MS, AUG. 24 George Waller Jr. piloted his 350 KTM to first overall in the last round of the Scorcher Series promoted by the Skuna River Motorcycle Club. The third and final event of the series was run on a slightly different course that was 11.9-miles 10nR. The course was somewhat tighter and had less roads in it due to the heavy dust. The riders ran four laps and averaged around 24 mph. Classes were started three minutes apart, beginning with 250s, before going to the Open, 200s, I 25s, Senior, and the 80cc class. Nolan Knighton a Can-Am led the 250s in to the woods and was also riding with a vengeance trying to hold his three-minute lead on Waller. Knight and Waller both had an overall win to their credit and this race would determine the championship. At the end of lap one Knight was first back to the swring chute, but when Waller came through he had made up 17 secOl;ds on Knight and had moved into first overall. A good r;ice [or first 200 was going on between Wesley Kin'g and Danny Barkley. King and Barkley both had a class win to their credit and this race would also decide their class championship. Mark· Sparks led the 125s on lap one. Chris McGregor, with the 125cc class championship sewed up with two class wins, came in second but pulled out o[ the race for the day.
