In the second moLO. the story was quite dirrerent. This time it was Wilkinson jamming into the lead while Longo followed. Results Conley cashes in at Baylands MX By Mike Vancil FREMONT, CA, AUG. 15 A healthy turnout of Open Pros turned out at Baylands motocross tonight, and when tbe racing wa alI over, it was K~wasaki Sean Conley taking the \''In. In the first molO, Conley captured the holeshot ahead of Tony Richards and Johnny Dauth. Dauth was on the gas as he mOLOred his way inLO the lead, and his drive didn't end there. He continued LOextend his lead LO an untouchable margin. In the second moLO, Conley again put his Kawasaki into the lead. bUl this time, he was able LO keep it there. Dauth pressured Conley throughout the moLO, but Conley never gave in. The second moLO win gave Conley the overall. while Dauth finished second. Third and fourth in the moLO went 10 Ian Brunk and Richards. There was plenty of action in the 250cc Beginner class, and in the first moto, it was Yamaha rider Malt Longo. Longo was the man to beat, bUl as it turned out, no one could. The Yamaha rider rode home easily PEE WEE" 1. Shawn Simpson (Kaw). MINI BEG: 1. Kenny Spence (Vam): 2. Marley doubles at Baylands MX By Mike Vancil FREMONT, CA, AUG. 8 It was a night for doubles at the CMC-sanctioned MX at Baylands Raceway Park. Eleven different racers were able to win bOlh molOS out of the 14 classes run. One of the more dif£icult doubles went to John Marley in the 250CC Beginner class, which drew a large number of entrants. At the start of the first molO, it was an even match LO the first corner between Marley and Matthew Longo. At the first corner Marley was able LO swing hi Yamaha through the 1800 turn quicker lhan Longo and take the lead. For several laps it was a hard foughl ballie between these two but Yamaha-mounted Longo faltered over the demanding stuller jumps and Marley was able LO increase his lead. Riding unchallenged in third place while all the balliing was going on was Honda-mounted Steve Wallace who is from Carmel and sponsored by Daves' C-ycle in Seaside. The finishing order read: Marley, Longo and Wallace. In the second molO Longo and Marley were out front again but they were joined, for a lime, by Greg Bailey. The £ront running duo soon ran of[ from Bailey and the pack and at the end it wa again Marley showing his uperior stamina and better j udgment through the more difficult sections. tan Wallace came from a mediocre start in lhe econd moLO and wa able lO work up to a third at the finish. Thi drive of Wallace put him past Bailey on lhe last lap 10 the checkers. In 80cc class action, a slimmeddown Kenny Spence piloted his Yamaha YZ80 to a pair of viclories over an even larger field than Marley encountered. In molO one, Spence was econd into the corner behind hot starter Brent Ugie, but by the second corner on the first lap Spence had slipped by, never LO look back. Ugie hung on throughout the moto though he surrered a near get-of[. The brush with a face-down landing orr the final jump on lbe white flag was only prevented by Ugie being able LO stab with a foot between one of the fulliock-to-iock tankslappers. In the second molO it was Spence slraight and true orr the line and into the lead. Ugie was not so fortunate Wilh his start but did work steadily up 10 capture second. Limited Edition.
