"Throughout the course of motorcycle drag racing history, Top Fuel has traditionally attracted the most attention from both the media and the fans," said Guarinello. "Since the demise of the NMRA in 1985, Top Fuel owners and riders have encountered a general 'Iock-out' by the remaining sanctioning bodies. While these organizations may realize that Top Fuel motorcycles put people in. the stands and money in their pockets, they are unwilling to offer either.the prize money befitting a Top Fuel rid· er's status or a consistant place for a Top Fuel motorcycle to compete. A real need exists for a self-run organization of unified Top Fuel racers. This was led to the formation of the Top Fuel Motorcycle Riders Association. Both of them have won at San Jose and at Sacrament'Q in recent outing, with Shoben having the distinction of being the only four-time winner of the an Jose Mile. But this time there is a choice for the riders instead of just one brand and tread as was the case last April. San Jose runs on Sunday afternoon, September 14.
