JULY 17 A&A Racing Services' Eddie Ingles won his fifth Scratch main event at Baylands Raceway after John Cook jumped out of the g-dte first but went wide, allowing Ingles the slraight shot. Cook served up a good portion of Cowboy style grits lO win the Handicap main where there were five guys on the 40-yard line for the start. Pat Linn started out the Scratch heats with a patented start and won, hojding off NorCal point leader Bart Bast, while Cook got around jim Sisemore and Greg Martz to s'tyle lO the second heat win. fngels had the third heat his way with a win over jeff Kniss, as Steve Martin was plaqued with bike problems. Mike Delacy dished out the fourth heat win over the stylish young john HousLOn. jr. Linn and Cook got into it rightoff the start of the first Scratch semi wi th Linn holding onto the tail section across the sLripe. Bart Bast had to fight off Greg Martz to get the proper line for the second semi. but only after Ingles had shot the gate and ran off for the win. Delacy led the outside line and crashed. Lining up for the main saw Ingles steal the pole with Cook on the outside and Linn and Bast in between. Atthe gate, Cook once again grabbed the start but slid out and 0[[ he went towards the fence. He recovered in last, while Ingles was off to work. Ingles had his hands full with Linn and Bast, but went on 0 win by three . bi keJen~ths. Handicap racing had Ingles, the winner in the first race, nipping by S.tu Ingles while Delacy caught up right at the end for the third position transfer. Birthday boy Jim Sisemore got the second heat rolling with a great, start and win, getting by Scott Briard, Mark Day and Linn. Martin came up lame in his heat, while Bart Bast PlJt on the show riding smoothly around Nick Gerdnio and Kid Curry for the third heat win.jeff Kniss had the fourth heat in the bag for four and a half laps with great style, but coming off the final corner with Cook and Mike Parsons chasing, Kniss gassed ita little too quickly and went (or the wall. Cook and Parsons went by with Kniss able to hang on for the final lransfer. Sisemore took the first semi over Ingles and Delacy in a great threeway battle, while Cook got off good in the second semi start and led Bast and C'urry to the checkers. Delacy was the first down in the main when he went wide in a fourman dice going into tum three. Ingles, Bast and Cook all got by Curry, who was so shaken by the passing in one lap, that he let Sisemore go, shaking his head all the way back into the pits. Cook made a few exceptional moves, and bingo, he was the winner. Bast held 0[[ the Ingles charge with Sisemore fourth over Curry. Results SCRATCH: 1. Eddie Ingels; 2. John Cook; 3. Bart Bast. Sma;' sa;'s to S.I.R. MXw;n By Jay Marcell KENT, WA,jULY II Lance Smail and his Federal Way Cycle Center-sponsored Kawasaki was untouchable in the 125cc Expert class, during round nine of the S.I.R. MX Series, tonight, in Kent. Smail sailed lO two convincing wins, while Jamie Richardson and his Honda finished second. All the Experts and Pros competed in one molO, and at the start of the first, it was 250cc Pro john Christian pulling the holeshot with jim Pittman (25Occ) close behind. Smail found himself in seventh after the start but quickly started gaining ground on the leaders. Bill Weiland held control of third before Smail worked his way up and passed him, setting his sights on Pittman. For the next three laps, the four leaders (Chrhstian, Pittman, Smail and Weiland) were no more than a few seconds apart. Smail and Weiland traded pIa· ces a couple of times before Smail sellied inlO third, while Pillmand shot by the leader Christian. Shortly after, Weiland bailed hard, while Smail found his way inLO the lead. When the checkered flag flew, it was Smail out in front, followed 'by Pillman and Christian. Christian jammed to the front of the pack at the start of the second moto ahead of Wayne Dixon, john Hodges and Smail. It lOok half the race before mail had taken over the lead. POWER LA. jeeve While the others chose the high road, Sammy Potter took the low road to capture Creek County Speedway's Open Expert money today. The Oklahoma City-based Pro rider dueled with local star David Copeland throughut the first half of the race. Copeland ran the cushion with Polte.r opting for the tires on the eighth-mjle oval. Potter made his move on the fifth lap diving under Copeland and pulling away for the victory. . Scott Adams, another Pro rider from the Oklahoma City area, moved around Willis Bewley for third. Phil Stcyr went down in turn two on the seventh lap, but was not injured. Rick Walker took the holeshot in the 80cc feature.
