MECHANICSBURG, PA, JULY 20 Despite a torrential downpour and a deeply rutted track, Californian Bader Manneh sped to victory in the I25cc Expert class at Sleepy Hollow Motocross Park. Fellow Californian Ray Sommo also showed up for the race but had lousy luck. In the first moLO, Manneh jumped to t~front of the pack and was never challenged for the lead. Sommo didn't get a great stan and wa in very tight lraffic going into the second turn. Several bikes collided and fell. When ommo got back underway, he wasat the back of the field. He showed great speed and maneuvering LO work up LO eigh th by the end of tbe race. Trouble struck Sommo again before the second turn in moto numbertwo. After a collision and fall, he was unable to restart his bike. By this time. water was filling up ruts and low spots on the track, and many riders had decided LO spectate instead of race. Manneb was back out in front from start to finish, enjoying the aquatic conditions. Bob Kelly, who leads the poi nts race in District six, chased Manneh to take second in the maLO and overall on a Suzuki. Third place went to Jim McAllvane. who had finished 3-6 on his Yamaha. Bob Sorenson made the best of the wet situation and won the Open Expert class. In the first moLO, he moved from sixth to second and could have challenged fOT the lead. Instead. a fallen rider's bike got tangled wi.th his and cost him valuable time. Jerry Seip Jr. took the holeshot but fell in an eXlremely muddy section. Keith Rodgers got by and then also fell. He was able to get back up and going before Seip could get by. Sorenson was closing in on Seip and soon got by. In the second moLO, George List took the holeshot and won. List DNF the first moLO, however. Kurt Fahnestock was in second aU the way. His 4-2 earned him second overall on a Honda. Sorenson moved up two places to finish third on a KTM, which gave him the overall win. Seip took fourth in the maLO, and overall on a Honda. Rodgers went \-5 for third on another Honda. Spencer grabbed tbe holeshot in molO one with Hoenshell close enough LO bang his rear tire in every turn. On lap seven Spencer made a slightly wide turn allowing Hoenshell to go underneth and oulrace him to the Ross Downs center jump. There was no way to block Hoenshell's midair pass and he held off Spencer for the win. Spencer was out first again in the second moto, but Hoenshell passed him on lap three. Spencer gave constant pressure, but had to settle for second place. The other riders, despite their skills, could only watch the two-man race. Grapevine's l5-year-oldRoySchellen berger outclassed a good field in posting a 1-1 in 125cc Intermediate action. Jeff Long was second overall and Chris Niles took third on his Yamaha.
