man over a jump and sailed into third and wasn't too far behind Hansen at the halfway point. Late in the race, Oster bit the dust over a jump. "I missed the berm and went right over the bars, landing on my back and knocking the wind out of me," said Oster. Both Hansen and Waldo lofted over the jump and Oster's bike as they went by. "I went up into the air with Waldo right next to me," said Hansen. "I looked down and there was Steve laying below me. It's a good thing we were on the gas, or we would've landed right on top of him!" Hansen held off the challenge set forth by Waldo and claimed the mota win. Oster didn't finish the race. In round two, Oster ~gain blasted into the lead ahead of Waldo, but three laps later, Hansen reeled in Waldo and passed him on the inside through a sweeper. At the halfway point, Oster enjoyed a seven-second lead while weaving his way ·through traffic. Waldo put, the move and Hansen and snuck by, but Hansen retaliated a few turns later. Dave Davis. , Mickelson lands MotoPro MX By Rolfe Otterness ELKO, MN, JULY 20 Mickey Mickelson put together a 1-2 day for the overall win in the Open Expert dass at the latest edition of Mota Pro, Incorporated's District 23 motocross. This was the first race at the Elko track in over a month and the Mota Pro gang had the track well prepped with some new jumps and a new digital clock on the starting line. A wellwatered track kept dust down for the approximately 300 riders. On the attack in the first mota, Mickelson took the win over Lee .Irvine with Mike Nathe third. Kirk Anderson pulled the hol.eshot in the second mota and held on to the lead despite Mickelson's pursuit. Nathe settled for third once again. Bruce Gates proved to be the fastest rider in the first l25cc Expert mota, slicing through the pack to lead by the second lap. Brandon Hopkins held top Amateur after passing Chuck leck midway through the race:· Hopkins tore into the lead in the next moto with Brian Fern holding second much of the way. Gates, after Mike Roen (528) leads Mark Shilanich (777) in the Woods Heavyweight class at Moto Pro. Inc. 's MX in Elko. Minnesota. an early crash, took third at the checkered. Jim Scott and David Tait rounded out the top five. Rapid Sports Center's Jeff Oldenberg once again topped the 250cc divisian in both motos. Gates, riding his 125 for practice, reeled in all 250cc riders except Olden berg after a frenzied charge. Rich Pearson was second Amateur with Scott Cripps riding w.ell for third.
