CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES Sipes takes home Ohio Valley win W'LLOW S .'''85 By Susan Willian AC LOUISVILLE, KY, JUNE I From dust to mud, motocrossers had their choice as the track conditions changed with help from Mother Nature. One thing that didn't change was the winner as Marvin Sipes captured the 125cc B overall win alter top contender, Jim Wilkerson DNF moto two with an injured ankle. Moto one saw Wilkerson give Sipes a workout as Wilkerson grabbed the lead off the line followed by Richard Niehaus and Sipes. Niehaus took a soil sample putting Sipes into second and moving Craig Blehar into third. By the second lap the battle Eor Eirst had developed with Sipes hQunding Wilkerson and trying to get around on every turn on the course. Wilkerson rode £lawlessly as he held onto his position Eor the moto win with Sipes second. . The second moto saw Wilkerson take an early lead with Sipes close at hand. Mud made the track a little more technical. Sipes, a mud master, quickly went into the lead, but Wilkerson fought back to regain the first position. By the end of lap one Sipes passed Wilkerson and stretched out his lead. Wilkerson, apparently in great pain after an ankle injury in practice, went down on the course for a DNF in the moLO. Despite some slipping and sliding, Sipes finished first and took home the overall win. Bruce Wilder quickly holeshotted the start of the ·1 25cc C only to slide down and become involved in a three bike pile-up. Jeff Broeckman LOok advantage of the crash to take over firsl. Alan Dixon in second made a move on Broeckmann to cake over for the moto win. Artie Ware, Wilder and Dixon took the front of the pack in the second moto. Ware went down for Wilder to take the lead as Broeckmann moved into second. Wilder claimed the moLO win with Broeckmann taking another second, giving him the overall honors because of his 2-2 low score. Patronize the.e fuD .ervlce Honda retail .ale. and service fadlltle..
