Edge ANCHORAGE, AK, MAY IS Erik Munson, riding a Suzuki Motorcycle and Marine/Jim Steward-sponsored RM250 cleaned up the Pro class at Kin- caid Park. The Alask~ Motorcycle Racing Association's Pro class is an Open displacement class where money is awarded and Munson took the lion's share. Munson made the 350mile drive from Fairbranks to prepare for the upcoming Alaska State Motocross Championship Series to be held at Kincaid Park. . Moto one of the Pro class found J &: .R Rentals-sponsored Kelly Butler out front on his Yamaha closely followed by Ralph Blanchard on a private . Yamaha. Munson was in midpack but by lap two had passed Blanchard and started to eat away at Butler's lead. Butler is coming back from two broken wrists and just didn't have the strength LO hold off Munson and on lap six Munson went by Butler for I first. The top three stayed the same as Munson was followed by Butler, and then Blanchard, across the finish line. Butler tweaked his ankle racing in the I25cc Expert class and had to sit out the second Pro moLO. With Butler ou t of the way, Munson took the lead and never looked back. After a bad first moLO, Peninsula Honda's Kevin' Schaub found himself in second holding off a hard-charging Blanchard. By lap six Blanchard discovered a way around Schaub, but meanwhile Munson was half-a-Iap ahead and not lelling up. Munson took the checkered flag and the overall ahead. of Blanchard and Schaub. Butler, even after injuring his ankle in moLO two, won the 125cc Expert class overall. Butler pulled the first moto holeshot and went on for an uneventful win. Jim McClain on a self-sponsored Kawasaki and SUl).lki Motorcycle and Marine's Joe Good ballled for the runner-up spot with McClain beating out Good at the finish. In the second moto 'Butler again started off leading but, with two laps to go, caught his ankle in, a rut and gave up the lead LO Good_ McClain was in third and almost cau.ght the slowing Butler but ran out of time as Go_od placed first and second overall behind Butler's 1-2. McClain was third with a 2-3. The Motorcycle Shop teammate's Donny Russell and Bruce Stingley traded moto wins in the 500cc Expert class. Stingley thumped his way to the firsr molO win aboard his fourstroke Husqvarna ahead of Russell and his KTM. This was Russell's first race of the year and it showed as he slowed considerably by the moto's end. Moto two was all Russell's as he led from start-to-finish. After a first' moto fourth, Kawasaki of Anchorage's Pat Crabb snuck in for second ahead of Stingley. Russell with a 2-1 earned the overall ahead of Stingley's 1-3 finish. Results 80 NOV: 1. Round three of Thursday night's meet.ing at Baylands Raceway park saw a number of new main event winners, but it was Linn the best of the lot. . Linn stuffed his Peterich Cycle/ Arai/Scoll special into the lead and ·then·the win over Steve Crawford. After intermission two-time Match race winner Bast lined up against Linn in the best of three series. Linn took the outside around the first time and won by about three inches, while ,Bast returned the favor in exactly the same fashion in the next round, winning by six inches. In the rubber round Linn had a good line for the first lap but gave it up in the heavy . stu'ff as did Ba:st,going for the che.ck.ered flag, gelling bogged down ever so slightly, but enough for Linn to win, big time. .' Steve Crawford surprised the veteran Yarrow in the first Scratch semi with a good start and he held the first line for the transfer. Ingels tried hard on the rim line but couldn't get it together and went off to the consolation with Martz. A tremendous ballle in the second semi between Linn and Sisemore brought the fans to their feet as Linn went around the outside and then caught a line for the inside and held tough to the checkers. Sisemore and Bast did the chasing with Bast stuck on the outside and unable to make up
