dialed in the second heat in front of Yarrow in a close call at the checkers. Bart Bast won the third heat after john Houston did the big slide number while going for second. Kid Curry held on for second over Tom Ferris. The fourth Scratch heat was a thriller with a violent crash at the start when Paul Orlandi ran over Marc Prince's rear wheel, catching the left arm of jim Sisemore on his right handlebar, and turning in an unbelieveable cartwheel/pirouette that was replayed many times later tha t nigh t by Videovauons. The crash tore up Orlandi's bike and a back-up had to be called for. The Quaker State/ Arai/Hi-PoinLlFree Flight Weslake led out but got chased down, big time, by Sisemore who won over Orlandi with the grandstand going absolutely bananas on the last two laps. Linn ended his big week with an "x marks the spot" crash in the first semi while Orlandi went around the troops on the outside and Ingels held the line for the win and second place transfers, respectively. Sisemore and his Truman Bailey Weslake was as awesome as ever in the second semi with a spirited contest over Bast and Martin setting the stage for a fine main event. Bart Bast pulled the #1 golf ball for the pole with Ingels, Sisemore and Orlandi on the wall. Bast edged Ingels forthe start and WFO'ed the first lap. Sisemore began to close up the gap on the white flag lap with Ingels, still holding second and Orlandi easing up. At the checkers it was a jubilant Bast the victor wi th Ingels a close second over Sisemore. Stu McDaniles took the Division Two main with a wire-to-wire romp over Jeff Holmes and Bill Hermant on the H&S Cycle special. . jerry Bland topped the Division Three guys with some of that fine old style racing over Mike Harrington on the Dave Faria Jawa. N G AA class winner Manny Gana, aboard his CR250 Honda, turned the fastest time of all the riders entered in the second round of the Louisiana Championship Hare Scramble Series. No overall award was given, but the AA and A class riders were timed to see just how fast these guys are. And they are fast. Honda rider Allen Hobgood held the AA class lead for three of the four IO-mile laps, until Garza closed in on Hobgood and took the winning position on the last lap. Crossing the finish line in the 200cc Expert winning position was Kawasaki KDX200-mounted Glen Romero. This was Romero's first race since he broke his collarbone a few months ago in his bicycle, of all things. Romero said, "My collarbone was a little sore, and I was doig fine until I hit a tree with that shoulder." The 200cc Beginner class was the largest class of the day. This turned out to be the last Beginner race [or the class winner, Honda rider Troy Fontenot, since once you win a Beginner class you have to move up to Novice. Gary Harvey took second place in the class aboard his CR80 Honda.
