Hodges top Dearfield Spdwy By Kevin George DEERFIELD, OH, APR. 27 Tom and Rob Hodges and Ray Chester hared the winner's <;:ircle after today's Deerfield Speedway. All rider Honda "Flyin" Brian Daily and his Jawa dominated speedway at Deerfield. The second time out, GaTy Dircks led the first lap until the next-to-Iast turn, where he went down. Kalas cruised into the lead as Dircks scrambled back aboard in fourth. Kalos ran on LO win, Terry Fowler took second and Dircks moved up to third. In Amateur action, 60cc Novices Andy Crider, David Ochoaand Jimmy Mokey put on quite a how. Mokey finished first [or the day with 2-1 [inishes, Ochoa took second (I ·3) and Crider nabbed third (3-2). In the 80cc Expert Jimmy Gaddis won both his matos, jumping his pint·size uzuki over the doubles with ea e. Brian Pryor ran strong LO take the 125 c Intermediate win over a huge field. The 250cc Intermediate racing saw Joe Manianocome ba k from a fourth place finish in his second maLO LO take the win in the [inal. Chris Pocino had a great day as well in the Novice ranks, running away with both the 125 and 250cc trophies. Tom Will had no troubles taking the 500cc Pro win. Roger Che ter blew his Husky into the lead on the start with Tom Hodges alongside in the orners. Roger had the power in the straights LO hold Hodges off, but things came to an end, when Chester's Husky broke down. This made the top three: Tom Hodges, Ray Chester and Rob Hodges. The race continued on in this same order all the way to the finish. The IT race was a ne.ar duplicate with the same four going at it again. Ray Chester made some good moves getting around the Hodges in the tight corners on his way to victory. Only three speedway bikes showed up to race, but the spectatros loved the action a Brian Daily and Randy Gutshall each fell while leading. Daft, Hawthorne win Whitney MX By Marc Jenkins LAKE WHITNEY, TK, MAY II Dennis Daft u ed a 3-3 combination to captured top money in the l25cc Pro class, while Dennis Hawthorne earned the overall in the 2505 with a] -I sweep at Lake Whitney MX. In the first 125cc Pro mota, Hawthorne jammed into the lead ahead of Rodney Barr and Wendall Simmon. Hawthorne led for the next twO laps .before Barr mOLOred by and developed a sizable lead. Hawthorne finished second, while third went LO Daft. Terry Tinney and Billy Whitley where the rider LO watch in the second maLO, while Barr dropped out with mechanical problems and Haw· thorne was busy back in traffic. p [rant, Whitley found the right line into the lead, while Tinney Slayed close. Whitley kept his cool and mOLOred on for the win. Tinney took second, while all eyes were focussed on the battle for third between Daft and Hawthorne. But when the dust had settled, it was Daft holding on [or third. The first 250cc Pro maLO was aU Hawthorne's. He led from start LO finish, while Chad Parker labored his way into second. Barr took third. Parker took the holeshot in the second motoand pulled out toa comfortable lead, while Hawthorne was found way in the back. Hawthorne slowly but surely worked his way to the front and eventuall y found second place and IS seconds between him and Parker. However, with two laps to go, Parker began slowing and Hawthorne made up the difference. On the last lap, Hawthorne made his move and dove by Parker for the win. As it turned out, Parker became sick during the moLO, causing him to drop off the pace.
