>- Schaub, Roskelle, win Alaska MX ! a: Cl ~ By M.R. Edge ANCHORAGE, AK, MAY II :I: CL Jeff Roskelley took his Honda of Anchorage-sponsored Cagiva to double molO wins in the hotly-contested 125cc Expert >III class Kincaid Park today, while Kevin Schaub dominated action in both the Pro and 250cc Expert classes. With rain the night before and sunny weather on race day, excellent conditions greeted a large turnout of spring riders who showed up at Kincaid Park to compete in an Alaska Motorcycle Racing Association MX, near Anchorage. Moto one found Roskelley into the first corner ahead of all competitors; with a clear track ahead of him, he turned up the throttle and opened a good-sized lead. By lap six Roskelley had a problem with a loosened silencer, but held on to take the win over a closely-pursuing Roger Neth, who was riding a Motorcycle Shop KTM. Neth ran most of the race in third behind Kawasaki of Anchorage's Lance Leneave, but a last lap banzai pass over the big doubles put him in second. The second moto start was a replay of the· first, except Roskelley found Suzuki ¥otorcycle and Marine's joe Good glued to his rear fender. The two top riders stayed that way until the checkered £lag, with Leneave finishing a distant third. After a midpack start, Neth was able to work up to fourth. Good ended up second overall with his 4-1 showing; Leneave was third with a 3-3 effort. Pennisula Honda-sponsored Schaub debuted his new ride by decimating the 250cc Experts. The 1985 AMRA 250 Champion won both motos going away, -leading each race from the drop of the gate to the checkered £lag. The real racing carne mostly from Suzuki-mounted,Kevin Herrin and Ken Conde. The two battled through both motos, with Herrin narrowingly taking second over Conde's Honda. Some of the most exciting racing of the day carne in the Pro class. The first moto holeshot belongecfto Bruce Stingley on a Motorcycle Shop KTM, but it was short lived. Good passed him on the first lap, only to pull off to repair his clutch lever, and Ralph Blanchard took over the lead, followed by Kawasaki of Anchorage's Pat Crabb. Blanchard was soon halfa-~ap ahead of Crabb, ~ho was dicing WIth Schaub. The dice got a little physical and on lap seven both riders went down. Schaub got up and took off first, while Stingley got by Crabb for third. It wasn't long before Crabb repassed Stingley and caught up to Schaub. On the final lap the duo tangled again and went down together. Again Scha u b got going before Crabb, then managed to finish sec:ond behind a long-gone Blanchard; Sungley placed third. Crabb crossed the finish line in fourth with a set of severely bent handlebars. Mota two was a Schaub runaway. just as Blanchard had done in the first malO, Schaub led the others by a huge margin into the first turn. Blanchard was in last place after a crash while Suzuki Motorcycle and Marine'~ Canyon Hansen had command of second over Stingley. On the fifth lap, Hansen's teammate Good challenged him for second spot, but Hansen roosted Good until he couldn't see, and he fell. Blanchard worked his way through traffic to finish third behind Hansen. Third overall went to Hansen, second to Blanchard and a well deserved-first was claimed by Schaub. o M M3ll5 Yamaha XV 700-1000 .NEWTItIea C~ Do·lt·Yourseif Repair Manuals ~ o :I: CL 1981·1984 M345Honda C8550 &650 In Full Color! 1983-1985 M329Honda 500ccV-Fours 1984-1985 M338Honda Gl1200 Gold Wing 1984·1985 Shaun Kalos dominated CRC Pro MX action at Sun Devil Stadium. Kalos nabs Sun Devil SX By Daryl Drake TEMPE, AZ, MAY II Honda-mounted Shaun Kalos dominated Pro motocross action during the California Racing Club's (CRC) Supercross Showdown at Sun Devil Stadi urn, held the day after Ricky johnson earned his Supercross Championship victory there. Even though more than 375 riders entered, CRC's jack Barbacovi and crew had the timing down lOa science, and brought the whole 55-moto show off without a hitch, two minutes ahead of schedule. Fifteen-year-old Shaun "King" Kalas of Litchfield Park, Arizona was the star of the day. He's been racing since he was five and definitely shows enough style lO run with the Saturday night gang. But since his age bars him from AMA Pro competition, he did the next best thing; he ran away with the CRC Sunday show. In the first I 25cc Pro molO, Kalas was out front early and went on for an easy win. Drey Dircks and Todd Campbell dueled most of the way for second, but near the end Campbell claimed it for good, resigning Dircks to third. In the second mota, Dircks was out front o[f the start, with Kalas right behind him. The pair traded the lead numerous times, but at about the midway piont Kalos took over for good and put some distance on Dircks; Campbell finished third. Kalos also was entered in the 250cc Pro class, but started poorly in the first molO, behind Gary Dircks and Dircks' brother Drey. The Brothers Dircks charged hard, having their own personal race ahead of the pack. Kalos worked his way up to third, and when the from pair faulted, grabbed the lead for the duration. Drey finished second, Bryan Bruner took over third., and Gary Dricks dropped to sixth. A manually operated ratchet-type wi~h that exerts up to 1,000 100. pulling power without draining your ballery.
