Road racer Mike Harth has left At· lanta, Georgia's RSCand.has resumed racing full·time, with the help of Dave Rhondbaugh. Running an FZ750 Superbike, Harth won the F-1 and Heavyweight Superbike events at an AMAlCCS race in Savannah, Georgia on May 25; on May 26 Harth rode a Suzuki GSXR 750 to victory in an AAMRR GSXR Cup Series event in West Palm Beach, Florida. "Those 18-hour days were just too much," Harth said in announcing his change. "II's good to be racing full time again. " The 500cc Motocross World Championship Grand Prix scheduled for England's HalNkstone Park on July 13 has been rescheduled for July 12. The Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Club (MARRC) is selling raffle tickets to raise money for a two-wa.y radio communications system to be used at AMA/CCS and WERA road races held atSummit Point, West Virginia. Winston-Salem, North Carolina's SP.ortCycles,·ltd., a Yamaha dealership managed by .Steve Davis, has donated a 1985 Yamaha 700 Maxim for a raffle which is being conducted to benefit the Richard Leslie Foundation, a non-profit organization formed for the purpose of aiding individuals who suffered severe head injuries in vehicular Harley-Davidson has registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission to offer on the public market over 1.43 million shares of common stock and $50 million in subordinated notes, according to a statement released May 23 by the Milwaukee, Wisconsin motorcycle manufacturer. Proceeds of the offerings will be used to reduce outstanding debt, to purchase war- . rants, to acquire common stock of the company, and to fund capital expenditures and fulfill other working capital needs. Besides motorcycles, Harley-Davidson also manufactures bomb casings and rocket engines for target drones, for the Defense Department. Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc., has been selected to handle the issues. According to publisher Peter Nicolaysen, Cycle Guide magazine will convert to nine issues per year. The new schedule will include six regular issues and three special issues published with August/September, October/November and December/Janu· ary dating. The special issues will be editorial targeted, Nicolaysen said, adding "Our goal is to give more motorcycle information to the reader." Nicolaysen also said that Cycle Guide had a new circulation plan "aimed at putting the magazine in the hands of enthusiasts, not just bodies;" Nicolaysen said efforts to boost the maga· zine's circulation would be tied in wi th Camel Pro Series events, GreatAmerican rtlOtorcycleshows and sunbelt state newstand distribution during winter months. "People are having to recognize the seasonality of this business and adjust to it," Nicolaysen said. "We're not doing this out of a position of weakness. We're doing this out of a position of strength. We tested it for two years with our November/December issue and newstand sales were spectacular. Instead of weak issue during those months, we'll have very strong issues both from an editorial standpoint and from a size standpoint. We'll be like concentrated orange juice." Team Yamaha will not attend the May 31/June 1 Camel Pro Road Racing Series event at Brainerd, Minnesota. According to Yamaha Racing Manager Ken Clark, the company found that the latest batch of FZ750 race kit connecting rods has mis-aligned wrist pin holes, which can cause rod failure. In a pressday phone interview, Clark said Jimmy Filice's heatrace crash at Sears Point, which kept Filice out of the final, was caused by a broken rod; the company has sent telegrams to all riders witt) kits containing the bad rods and the factory is working on replacement rods.
