Here. he chases Chuck Sybert (66). came out of the econd turn with the lead and held it to the end of lap three, when he was t-boned by joe Hopkins and knock~d d,?wn .. Capt recovered in time 10 mall1tall1 the Imermediate lead and take· that win. Honda-moumed Hopkin ,sponsored by Answer/Valley Honda, went onto win the Pro race, even thoug jimmy Palmer breathed down his neck for the entire second haH of the molO. Anders got the jump again at the start of molO two, and PVKIAnswer/ Silkolene-sponsored PaLmer crammed his Kawasaki into second after almost missing turn one. Near the end of lap two, Palmer took the lead and Hopkins followed into second. Palmer wem on 10 take the molO win and first overall in the l25cc Pro division. Anders won the second Intermediate molO to take the overall; Capt failed to finish the second molO; Scott Murphy tallied a 3-2 10 claim second overall in the Intermediate class. jim Harris blew away the 250cc Intermediates in molO one, romping to an easy win with Randy Rush following .in second. Rush owned the second moto. He took the holes hot, held off Doug Allen and went on for both the molO and overall wins. Harris finished well back after a bad start. Tim Hanna (Kaw), Schmitt is back at Dade MX By Athie Sanders DADE CITY, fL, MAY 10 The Pasco County Fairground came alive as Daniel chmitt topped the 250 A clas at Dade City Raceway. Kenny Yoho darted under Matt Harrell at the start of the first 60cc Amateur molO to come out of the first turn behind leader Chris Allen. Yoho charged hard and kept the pressure on until he met with the wrong side of a berm and fell. Harrell pulled ahead 10 follow Allen in for the win, leaving Yoho to settle for third while jason Sybet took fourth. Harrell was first off the line in molO two, but Yohoonceagain sliced to the inside and slOle the holeshot, Allen also pulled around Harrell then took off after Yoho. Yoho held the inside line, shutting Allen out. In the last lap the two were hauling side-by-side, taking the camelback jump together and lamming into the corners simultaneously. Allen maneuvered by Yoho in the las turn ttien went in for the double win moments later, forcing Yoho to settle for e ond, and second overall, hi Harrell took third. Harrell told a different tory in the 80cc class when he stuffed it o~t front and rode a wire-to-wire race in both moto with no que tion a to wh was king. Robert Goldsborough, Paul johnson and Chris Allen followed overall in that order. Gulf View Yamaha-sponsored Schmiu showed his tuff as he nabbed the holeshot in both 250 A molOS and lOok double molO wins under serious pressure. In molO one. Anthony White would not leave Schmitt alone as they diced for the lead. White slipped ahead for a short time, but soon found himself back in second. In moto two, White was right behind Schmitt as they headed into the first turn. but got bent out of shape and allowed Kevin Seidl to sneak in behind Schmitt. Seidl rode hard, no one got between him and the leader. As they took the checkered flag it was Schmitt, Seidl, White and David . Lashley way up front. I went back for a a tiona i Ingels at Auburn Speedway By Bill Spencer AUB R ,CA, MAY 9 Eddie Ingels and Jim Sisemore are fast becoming the boys to beat in northern California Class A Speedway racing, copping wins in Scratch and Handicap mains, respectively, in the opening night at the Gold Country fairgrounds in Auburn. teve Martin got racing underway in the first Handicap heat with a rimriding win over Pat Linn and Mike Parsons whil it was Kid Curry and the B &: W Machine Shop Special topping heat two over Sisemore and jeH Brown. Marc Prince rode the Napa Valley Yamaha Special to heat three results over a hard-pressing john Houston Jr., with Steve Crawford making the transfer on his new bike. Mark Dragony got a good start in the final heat and held lhe line close for the win over joe Leduc and Duane Yarrow. Yarrow had to work, coming off the line poorly and having to ride e ·tra hard for the final transfer. Martin kept up the rim rides by winning the first semi and Dragony held the second semi at bay. Crashes were in order for the main .with Houston uffering the worst of the two starts. jim Sisemore wenl to work on the low yardage guys quick Iy, passing Dragony and Prince and dispatching a fast-paced Parsons and pulling a fairly wide lead for the heckers. Dragony held second over Prince with Parsons fourth over Martin, who had troubles with the wall and Houston shook up from all the bashing he had taken during the course of the night. Paul Orlandi, the older, lined up aginst the kid. Bart Bast, and proceeded 10 put on the display of the night, running a wide line throughout the first Scratch heat with Bast the other transfer. Crawford held off HOUSlOn for heat two while it was Ingels outdashing Sisemore for heat three and teammates Pat Linn over Tom ferris in the final heat. The firsl Scratch semi was a thriller wilh Sisemore getting an excellent tart and Orlandi not so good and then running into troubles with the corners. Crawford kept out of trouble 10 follow to the main while ferris joined Orlandi in the Consi. cratch " • •..._~...,.rI¥'~.!1,., ~ . . .i"l"I' .... . semi two got a tad crowded in the irst turn for HouslOn, who went down hard, and in Ihe restart it was Bast and Ingels once again on the run. Ingels went wide for three turns, crowded the corner and took the checkers with Bast right behind. Once again there were two starts with Ingels getting the edge in tbe first one but laking out Bast and isemore in the process. The niLlYgritty one was Ingels and Bast, the younger, side-by-side for t~o complete laps. The fans were gomg nuts as Ingels swapped the outside with Bast bUI once again the veteran persevered and LOok home his third Scratch main of the year. Results SCRATCH: 1. Eddie Ingels; 2. Doug Magnano. Brown nabs Ohio .Valley MX By Susan Willian LOUISVILLE, KY, MAY II Brian Brown took the overall win'at Ohio Valley Raceway in the Senior Mini class. Brown holeshot mow one with Brian Graus, Eric Goatley and jody Cooper in pursuit. Cooper quickly passed Goatley to move into third wnile Graus gained on Brown. Brown, riding with a flat front tire, got caught up in some slower riders but managed 10 capture the win with Graus taking second and Cooper third. Brian Stephenson charged through the pack 10 take the lead in molO two. Graus maneuvered his bike into position 10 steal the lead from Stephenson as Brown, in third, moved into second. Graus and Brown contested each other around the course until the start of lap two when Brown made an aggressive move on Graus to take the front position and the moto win. Graus took second with Stephenson third. . Kevin Wolf was uncontested as he slOle the show in the 125cc Brace. Wolf won both molOS while Marvin Sipes worked his way to second in molO one but had to settle for filth in molO two after a chain derailment. Craig Kramer returned to motocross racing after taking several seasons off. Kramer finished third the first molO of the I25cc B and earned a second in molO two. The start of the I25cc C class saw Tony Anderson swarm past the other riders to take the lead followed by jody Cooper and Chris french. Anderson held off Cooper for the win as a lapped rider got in the way of Cooper, slowing him up. The second moto saw Cooper the fast guy on the. start with french second. French gassed it 10 move into first. A battle developed for third between Michael Klotz and Dale Bland. Klotz closed in on Bland but Bland clung to third. Anderson worked his way to fourth 10 pressure Bland. The two riders collided with &land getting underway first. The checkered went 10 Cooper, french second, Bland, third.
