Galland Hill's 8.53/155.02. Hill rode a Suzuki. . Sauro began his '86 Pro Stock season on a. winning note, defeating Vance &Hmes co-owner Byron Hines in the final, 8.72/150.25 to 9.05/ 148.02. Hines was riding jim Marrow's Kawasaki. Rick Gerocontinued his dominance of the fast-growing Pro Street category with a final round 8.97/164.53 time with his Vance & Hines-sponsored SuzukJ. Gero ran a best time of 8.50 at 169 mph with the wheelie barless wonder, before defeating Dale Barber's APEIV&H-backed Kawasaki. Barber hada final round run of 10.001 132 mph. Other winners included Steve Alls~edt on a Harley in the Competition fmal, with joe Meija's Yamaha second, and Gary Moreno defeated Tom Erickson in a battle of Hondas for the ET. Stock final. Bob Ives won the Trophy honors, with Monty Moncrief the runner-up. Greene, Williams winAFMRR By Roger Smith SONOMA, CA, APR. 20 The AFM North hosted a record-breaking crowd for the third round of the season at Sears Point Raceway. The event, Lhe largest in AFM history with over 700 entries, also provided the fans with a preview of the local racers wiLh ambitions for Lhe upcoming AMA ational roadrace. The Open Formula Twins class saw Pro BoTT rider john Williams out in his first AFM race of the season. A grabby clutch got him off to a slow start, but he quickly pulled his 1000cc Ducati to Lhefront. Art Chambers, who usually dominates the Over 40 class, was on his Ducati. He and BMW mounted Rick Weber diced for the second place slot but Chambers pulled away in the end. The final 'order was Williams, Chambers and Weber. The Formula Two race also saw a number of local Pro contenders warming up for the Sears Point AMA National on May 18. Current National Champion Don Greene took an early lead on his Dunlop/Rolland Cushway Honda RX250. Contenders for second place included Dwayne Chung, Wayne Montoya and Colo~do-based Keith Kiyota. Chung lost his first lap lead to Greene, but he held off challenges from first Kiyota and then Montoya to finish second. Montoya was Lhird. Stock Production continued to be Lhe scene of some of the hottest bat-' ties, fueled by the GSXR contingency money from Suzuki. The 750cc Stock Production race drew 48 entries. Craig Seher grabbed the early lead on one of the few Kawasakis at the front of the pack. But Scott Gray mOLOred past him before the second turn. Gray was never threatened again. He turned steady 1:50s, gaining a second or two each lap. His tire problems from past races appear LO have been solved. The race for second place money was another story. Seher held second for two laps, hut a pack of riders closed on him relentlessly. The first LO threaten was Richard Moore, who was followed by Allen Satterlee and Malcolm Hill. Moore closed on Seher. After a twolap dice, he gained a one-bike length lead. Back in fourth place, Hill had Winner Graham Kimble (912) and John Wrublevski dice at Dade Raceway. closed on Satterlee, and they were Jomed by Doug Toladn in his first race atSears Point. Toland had worked his Vance & Hines Performance Center of Torrance Suzuki through the pack after a slow start. The contest heated up. The five contenders for second place were constantly reshufflmg the order. At the white flag all five were spread over no mor~ than 50 feet. Seher had regained second, but Hill followed by less than a lengLh. Moore, Satterlee and Toland w~e n?t far behind. On Lhe last lap Hill sbpped past Seher. Toland first reeled in Satterlee, then Moore. He made a last minute move on Seher and beat him LO the line by a wheel. The final order was Gray Hill Toland and Seher. " In the Open Stock Production race Don Biava beat Gray LO the first turn: But Gray repeated his feat (rom the 750cc race and soon pulled into Lhe lead on his Cycle Imports Suzuki. Biava had his hands full with threats from Matthew Ericson and Chris Steward. Steward moved into second and began to pull away. Biava was joined by Bob Reinen and Toland. The entire group then closed on Ericson. Toland caught up to Ericson who picked up Lhe pace and closed o~ Steward. In the last laps, Steward, Encson, Toland, Moore and Biava moved around the track in a highspeed formation. Ericson's engine faded in Lhe last lap and Biava worked his way around Moore. CLIFFORD, PA, APR. 20 Tony Duboski and the Kazmierczak brothers, Mike and Tom, combined to score five class wins at Hurrican Hills Sports Center's opening MX of the season. Duboski LOpped the 250cc and Open Expert clas es, while Tom Kazmierczak took top honors in the 250cc and Open Amateur classes and brother Mike topped the I25cc Amateur division. Keith Crothers finished second in the first moto and Ronnie Utt was second in the 'final moto. . Paul ~ckhart ran away with the first Se,nlOr Expert class moto, taking the wm ovet: joe Yagloski, Tom Brennan and Pro-Motion co-owner Steve Trenholm. Wheeler heads Dade CityMX By Athie Sanders DADE CITY, FL, APR. 26 , Honda-mounted John Wheeler defeated Suzuki riders Darren Drago and Chris Vendetti in the 125cc Beginner class during the final round of the T&DI Yamaha/Simpson/Dunlap/Scottl Motorcycle Stuff-sponsored Dade City Raceway Spring Series. OLher class winners included Darren Venditti jeff Finkhousen, Keith Westbrook and Kraig Constantino. The start of the first 125cc Beginner moto saw Wheeler pushed by Drago and Ben Sanders as Lhey funneled into the first turn. Wheeler took the holeshot and proceeded LO pull away fr<;lm the pack, Duane Dooley and Ricky Leach found the hot line around Sanders, making Lhe finishing order Wheeler, Drago, Dooley, Leach and Sanders. Series points leader Shawn junker stole Lhe holeshot in maLO two and led most of the race comfortably until the. fmal lap when Drago was pressunng_ With Lhe finish line in sight, Junker and Drago collided after a Jump ~nd crashed, giving the lead and wm to Chris Venditti. Wheeler finished second for the overall, while Drago netted a second overall with a 2-4 outing. Scott Marvicsin grabbed Lhe holeshot in the first 125cc C moto while class series points leader Darr~n Venditti pursued. However, Marvicsin overshot a jump and became out of shape, giving Venditti the lead and dropping back to sixth. "I landed on top of the camelback, and it took the bike to Lhe left," said Marvicsin_ "I had to come back around to get back on the track, but by that time, several riders had passed me by. There was no time left to make up the loss." At the finish, Venditti ran away with the win, followed by joe Pearce, Mark ~rown, Gary Emerson and' jeff WarIOgton.
