Fred Bash or (Honda) took th e lead . when the green flag dro pped. Bill Moroz (Husqvarna) and Kurt Bow man (KTM) ba ttl ed for second p lace. Bashor was still in the lead at the ha lf-way point, bu t Bowm an a nd Moroz slipped by a short time later wh en Bash or was forced to make a n extra -lo ng p it stop. Bowman was busy fighting off Mo roz fo r th e lead when Kresic sn uc k by bot h of them a nd went o n to take the overall win . Charles Cusic (Honda ) lost a lo t of ground wh en he pitted for gas, but still manag ed to fini sh second behind Kresi c in the 250cc B div ision. Erwin takes two at S&S Speedway . By Unda Brewer MACCLESFIELD, N.C ., APR. 19 Honda rider Daniel Erwin came to B&B speedway MX and went home wi th two wins: one in th e 80cc Pro class, and another in the 125cc Ama teur class. . Erwin had no tro ubles handl in g the 80cc Pro class. His nearest com pe titor was Ya maha ri der Kevin Webb, while Keith Ellis rode hard and fin ished in the number three position. T roy Brewer sett led for fourt h. The win came a little tough er for Erwi n in th e 125cc Ama teur class , . since 20 o ther riders were o n hand to do battle. But in th e en d, it was Er win a nd his Erw in O il/Triangle Cyclesponsored Yama ha lead ing the way with Sco tt R iggs, Stanley Puett and J im Belfiore trailing. In th e 80cc Amateur class, the win ner was Yamah a rider Warren Ausley. Aus ley had to keep on hi s toes, however , as Derek Watston p ressured h im every inch of th e way. In the o ne he lost, Ga ddis was edged out by Texa n john La ngford (Kawasa ki) in a sp ectacu lar · d uel. ' At th e sta rt of the first 80cc Expert . Stock cl ass, h o m e to wn fa vorite " King" Ri chard Saxton ja mmed into th e lead, followed by Gaddis and La ngford. Soon af ter, both Gaddis a nd Lan gford sn uc k by Saxton a nd proceeded to du el for th e lead. The Suzuki and Kawasak i match-up lasted throughout th e moto as .Gaddis a nd Langford pulled awa y from the pack. Langford pushed Gaddis to th e limit, but the Suzuki rider didn 't give an inch and took the win. Langford captured the second moto holeshot, ahead of Saxton, Jeff Em ig and Gaddis. Gaddis gated poorly, which forced him to go all out. He caught and passed Em ig , then Sax ton, and then reeled in the leader Langford. Gaddis held the throttle wide open and scooted into the lead, and eventually too k the. win and •overal l. Second went to Langford , foll owed by Saxton a nd Jimmy But: ton. ·In the first 80cc Modified race, Honda rider Rick Simmer motored into the early lead inches ahead of Gaddis and Langford. Shortly thereafter, Gaddis and Langford were again found ba ttling, 1-2, for the lead. Like he had done twice before, Gaddis nipped Langford for the win. In round two , it was Langford out in from after the ga te dropped, but Gaddis wasn 't far beh ind. After th e fir st lap it was obvious it would be. another Langford/Gaddis dice right down to the finish - wh ich it was. The dogfight was intense, a nd the best yet. The two ri ders clawed a nd scratched each o ther as the tore up the rest of the co mpe tition. N6t wanting . to lose ano th er battle to G addis , Langford never let up and kep t Gaddis a t bar right down to th e checkered flag. After three ro unds, McG inn is leads both the 250cc a nd O pen Pro classes with ni ne wi ns in 12 motos. In Open Pro ac tion , McGinnis and Sco tt N ielson (H onda of Salt La ke) are go ing a t it tooth-and-nail. Nielson won the openi ng round in La s Vegas, but McGinni s has since dom in ated th e cla ss, winning five of th e last six motos; he leads Ni elson by four points. Steve Luczak is th ird in the points sta ndi ngs. McG innis a lso is run ning strong in the 250cc P ro class. Besides McGinnis, only Eric H all and Nielson have been a ble to wi n motos in the d ivisio n . Brad Frampton (Western H onda ) also is a threa t; he is running th ird overall beh ind McGinnis a nd Ni elson. . Fra mpton has been flyin g in the hotly-contested 125cc Pro class. In sma ll-bore ac tio n, Frampton leads seco nd pl ace Corky Maughan a nd th ird pl ace Eri c H all. In the 80cc P ro class, Matt J enkin s is the points leader; j us tin J en sen trails him by seven poi nts . The T ri-Stat e Series, designed as a warm-up . to th e 1986 Ama teur Nationals, will cul mi na te with a regiona l Ama teur qual ifier Ma y 24-25 in Las Vega s. The T ri-State Series offers riders a chance to win sponsorship to the Amateur Nati o nals, in clud ing: Paid entry fee; five-day camping fee; .$200 in expense money: $200 gas a llowa nce (or free tra nspo rta tion to a nd fro m Tennessee, courtesy of Plaza Cycle); media exposure; a nd a n engraved meta l-on-wood p laq ue. After bad luc k in th e first moto of ro und th ree, Sommer bo unced back to win the second mot a a nd secu re the points lead. In the 125cc Amateur class: T .L. Tay lor (Honda of Las Vegas) is the dom inant force. He proved his superiority by beat ing Lowell T hompson in ro und o ne a t Las Vegas, and has since do mi na ted th e class to forge a 22-point lead over second pl ace Sig Riddle. Riddl e rode hard in ro und three to adv an ce to second overall; Bob Hi cks is th ird in the sta nd ings. Terry McGinnis leads the points standings ..n ' bo~h. the- 250cc and i Open Pro classes of the Plaza Cycle/Yamaha Tri-State Series . Chad Fra mp ton holds the adva ntage in th e 80cc Am a teu r d ivision. Scott Huff p ulled a slingshot holesho t in the Mi ni class an d left Steve H all and Bryan Gra ybeal to battle for . second. Huff cruised to an easy wi n as h e d id in hi s hea t, whi le H all held off a h ard-ch arging Graybeal for second. Er ic Rutledge was the lone Pee Wee and chased th e Mi nis valia ntly to the delight of the crowd . . T he 125 an d 200cc bikes wer e com bined a nd it made for a grea t race . Eric Esch meyer went down in th e third turn brin ging ou t the red flag. Eschmeyer again took the lead in the restart with Sho ufler a nd Don i H olema n in tow. Scott Huff had a bad start a nd was at th e bac k of th e pack, bu t by th e seco nd la p he had moved through the pack to tak e second.
