But o n th e fourth lap jorgen sen passed Shobert. and th e pair had alread y sta rted pulling serious distance on th e field . jorgensen was gaining ground entering th e first turn; by the sixth lap, Carr was in third place ah ead of Day. Chandler, Hames and Eklund. But on the seventh lap Sh obert closed up and got underneath . almost-even-with' jorgensen in the .seco nd turn; Shobert pulled up alongside in the third turn and over the jump. but whe n ir came time to peel into the right-hander after th e jump. jorgensen was there first. Shobert wasn 't ga in ing any thi ng on th e straig h taw ay - jorgensen would later cred it a ship men t o f lat e parts fro m Wood fo r th a t - and his H onda was st rea ming faint blue smoke when he slid in to th e fir st turn , of£ the throttle. By th e 10th lap, j or gen sen was - almos t two seco nds a hea d entering turn one; at tum th ree o n th e sa me lap th e margin was one second. Carr was alone in th ird pl ace; Hames. Ch andler and Eklund were go ing at it tooth a nd na il for fourth place. Three laps later . j orgen sen aga in had two seconds on Shobert; Shobert had three seco nds on Carr. who had another three seconds on H ames/ Ch andler/Eklund. Day and Parker battled for seventh, with Pearson eigh th and his bik e slowing; Pearson would eventuall y retire with a blown head gasket. Sweet was ninth. ahead of Graham and Green, Cornwell. Poovey. Reid, Fay and jones, whose bike 's chain ten sioner roll er was coming apa rt; jones would soon pull o f£ th e track with a th rown cha in. La p lB. The gap between j orgen sen and Sho bert is less th an one seco nd; Ca rr is anothe r five seconds back. Lap 20. Sh obert closes up again into turn one, is side-by-side with jorgen sen in th e a iroffthejump. but jorgensen sh oots a bit ahead on th e landing and pitches into th e follow ing right bander, still leading. precariously. The white nag is o u t, and Shobert is o n jorgensen . This time . Shobert passes off th e jump a nd it looks like he 's got his pass; but Shobert hits hard and h is bike goes into a tankslapper, Shobert bar el y under co ntrol . jorgensen outside. a nd , wh en he finall y throws it into the right-hander, still in front. jorgensen wins. " I was afraid to turn right in the turn," said jorgensen afterwards. "I didn't know if he was still out of shape, or where he got it back under control. IB Brya n McDowell rode his Harley-Davidson to the win in the Junior National Championship portion of tonight's Camel Pro Series TT National at Ascot Park. Curtis Cannon was th e first rider into the infield of the first heat; behind him. Tim Shultz and PJ Sanchez collided. with both riders going down. Shultz was unable to get his Honda restarted. but Sanchez rejo ined the rac e in last on his Wood- Rotax. Up front, Cannon (H arley-Davidson) was pulling away from second-place Craig Howard, who was battling with Frankie Garcia for second spot. Fast qualifier Robert Damron ran fourth , and tried to pass Garcia over the TT jump. bu t Garcia shut the door on him in the next turn. Garcia apparently needed that pressure to get on the gas . and by th e next lap, he was in second. At the finish it was Cannon, Garcia. Howard. J a y Lewis. Da':Ilron and PJ Sanchez going to th e main. Heat two was red -nagged when Brian Bonesteel (las t week's winner at th e Sacramento Mile). and Bryan
