Harrell got by into the righthand tu rn before th e 'IT jump, th en Scherb als o passed McDowell in the left -hander going onto the h alf mile wh en McDow ell missed a sh ift. McDowell (Sh oe i/ Br uce's Body Shop/ R. K. Chain/ Kal -Gard/Uke's H- D/ H i-Point) timed the start light _ just righ t as h e a nd Sch erb were the first riders into th e firs t.turn . Sch erb got th e lead on lap three in th e in field, bu t it o nl y la sted two laps as McDowell dov e under him in the lefth and er coming off th e half mile. Cannon ap p eared to be th e fastest rider in th e ma in; h e started in sixth , and by la p two wa s in fourth an d pushing Garci a for th ird. With in one lap, Canno n was cha lle n g ing MeDowell for th e lead. Cannon d id pass the leader ove r th e 'IT jump, b ut landed with his feet o ff th e footpegs, letting McDow ell back by. O n lap 10, Canno n was bla ck-fla gged as his exha ust pipe was fa lli ng off. T h is p u t Garcia in second, with H arr ell and Damr on in close pursuit. As th e wh ite flag came out, H arrell tried to p ass Garcia for second pl ace, but was unable to . At the che ckered flag, it was McDowell over G arcia by th ree _ bikelengths.
