Lees/Boyd tops SIDRA teams By Mike Thuleen BOISE, ID, MAR. 2 Dan Lees (Hi-Point/Emmett Cycle Salvage) and Ross Boyd (L&M Cycle Sales) teamed up for the Third Annual Southwest Idaho Desert Racing Association (SIDRA) Fun race at Owyhee Motorcycle Club grounds, and pulled off an amazing win over a tough Expert class. The teams were chosen by a drawing before the race. As soon as the formidable Reed Bright/Todd Peugh team was announced, the spectators and opposing riders, apparently unimpressed by the pick, voiced loud disappointment. Among other competitive teams drawn were Hi-Point's Dan Huskey/Tim Boehlke, Toby Ashley/ teve Moore, and (of course) Lees/Boyd. joel Huskey and his Suzuki rocketed to the holes hot with little brother, Dan, fast in tow. Behind them, Kawasaki riders Ron Wehr and Larry jackson dueled. Lees was unprepared for the start, but mounted a spectacular charge from last place (about 15th) to sixth within a quarter-mile through dense dust and deep whoops. Up front, Dan Huskey got past joel, and jackson (L&M Sales/Hi-Point/Smith) bliued from sixth to third. Within the next laps, Dan Huskey wicked it on hard as jackson moved to challenge him. joel faded back a bit and Wehr ralled the berms harder. Lees pulled off amazing passes and forced his way into fourth. CR500Rmounted Ashley rode hard, trying to catch Huskey and company. Past the pit check, the "secondhalves" tensely waited for their teammates to complete five laps. Woods racer Taylor Ogden watched nervously as panner Pro-MXer jackson tried in vain to nail Dan Huskey. In contrast, the relaxed as ever desert prodigy, Bright (Cycle Nuts' n' BollS/ Team Husky), sat pleasantly aboard his XC250 while partner .. Stinky" Peugh moved up through the ranks. Huskey charged in with jackson pressuring him. Their partners, Boehlke and Taylor Ogden, carried on the battle. A tired Lees handed the checking card to Boyd (L&M Cycles), while "Banzai" Bright, the epitome of style, took of[ to reel in Boehlke and Ogden. Boehlke put distance on Ogden and his KDX; Boyd and Bright were able to get ahead of Ogden and were moving up to pressure Boehlke. A short ways behind, Moore hammered it through the whoops to catch them. Reed sheared off all of the teeth on his Husky and pulled in for repairs; he went back out, but wasn't able to catch the top riders. Boyd rode sman and put himself in first, with Moore, Boehlke, and Ogden tailing him at the finish. Amateur/Beginner action aw Steve Accarequi and jeff Murray pull well away from the rest of the pack with CONGRATULATIONS TO luaWTSUBAKI CHAIN WINNERS "... * ...
