Loop one overa ll winner was J amie R iker, who also took hi s Yamaha to first 200 C-16 a t 2. 157 drop pe d . Betty Len nox (H o ld ridgc) took a KDX 200 to fir st C Woman a t 4.253 a nd seco n d overall, beating first B Woman Dawn Pacha by a full m inute. Rounding o u t the top fiv e were R yan St enberg, fir st C Min i, who also beat fir st B Mini J oey T oste, but o n ly by three seconds, at 5.3 16 dropped. His race ended after th e first loop, another computer /break time victim. Loop two fed fresh riders th ro ugh a 36 mph Special Test right off th e down hi ll off -camber start. After riding through th e Sla te Mounta in area, th e checkout came at 3.6 m iles, followed by another IO-mi nute reset on Rand R idge. Despi te an excellent 18 mph speed average, a we ll-placed check on a drop-away slope to the rig ht caught th e largest number of riders of the day for a burn. The co u rse th en dropped of f the north side of th e ridge down the Frem ont Vall ey. At 14.4 miles, th e speed jumped to 24 mph in a long downhill sa n dwas h, the n sq ueezed down to 18 mph qui ckl y a t 15.6 mi les by th e wa ter ' tan ks and a mine. Head ing west over an old worn-ou t trai l, rid ers doubled back on Fremont Road a t 18.9 miles, where th e speed cha nged to 36 mph. More burns, a nd severa l ri ders called 'foul' because of no 15m ile marker. Bu t th e speed ch ange was noted , .6 miles later. If CRC did in fact ge t tri cky, it was in th is thi rd Special Test section, where riders could go fas ter th an the 36 mph speed. But the co urse got progressively rougher and tighter, before fina lly going upa hand-mined canyon to th e check-o u t at 24.3 miles, and an a fterglow cru ise mode o f 18 mph into a five-minu te rese t, Mos t o f the da ys flatten ed tires fo und th eir m a tes in thi s last Special. Finishi n g eas ily as many rid ers lik ed , th e co urse turned eas t tow ard Randsbu rg , fo llowing a telephone li n e up to Hadley Mi ne . With a speed cha nge to 21 mph a t 30.3 m iles, riders enjoyed a view of Government Peak before dropping to 18 mph so ut h through a very narrow ca nyo n and back up a no ther long ridge to th e mi crowave tower. After keeping riders wide a wa ke down an even more tricky ca nyo n sweep, an easy cru ise took ribbon -followers ba ck towards Ra n dsburg to th e finish at 41.5 miles. Overall wi n ner J ohn Ferro sta ted , " I was happy to see th ere we re three Specia l Tests. I wis h they wou ld either speed th em up a bit , though, or make them tighter. T h e thi rd Special was technical , an d excellent. The 7:00 a m sta rt was good." J eff Ti bbeus, B O pen Four-Stroke , co m me nted, " It was a grea t co urse.
