As Stork pu lled o u t to a co m forta ble m argin, Overman found Zu hr tough to ge t by, but was fin all y a ble to nudge h is wa y p ast th e H onda pi lo t for seco nd. At the co m p letio n of lap o ne, Ov erm an had trouble u ndern ea th th e bridge, sta lled in th e one-lined part of th e tra ck and ca used a bo tt leneck behind. Stork tr ied 10 d uck undernea th , bu t Berry found th e faste r wa y out of th e tu n nel on th e high side and shot into th e lead . Stork soon fo llo wed , with O ver ma n gelling h is Yamaha ru nning back in th ird. Beh in d Zuhr, Hen d rickso n a n d G reseth were battling for posi tion , bu t the two leaders p ro vided th e ma in show o f th e race. Stork quickl y ca ught Berr y a nd a p p lied trem en do us pr essu re o n th e KX pi lot for th e following 15 laps, bu t Berry never faltered. With passing tough due to th e track conditio ns, Stork co u ld o n ly ho p e fo r some bobble by th e fro nt runner , but that m istak e never ca m e a nd a t th e wire Berry took th e chec kers by a whee l over Stork. O verman agai n mot ored in with a so lid th ird w hile Zu hr led Greseth a nd Hend rickso n across the lin e for fourth. McG ray kep t a co nsis tent line into co rners, never giving up th e inside, a nd despi te Fu ller flyi ng p ast over a set o f ju mps bri efly halfwa y th rough th e m oto , McGray rem a in ed calm and bulled h is way into the nex t co rn er to rega in first p lace. As th e chec kered flag cam e o u t, it look ed as if McGra y would take the rnot o win , . but 30 feet from th e finish , in a ri gh t ha irpin turn , McGray lost tract ion and nearly slid OUI. Fu lle r went o ut sid e in th e turn a nd th e duo dragraced to th e fin ish side-by-side. It was Fuller by half a wh eel ta king the rnot o ahea d o f McGray a nd Ritter with Wagn er dropping out wit h bi ke problems. Onl y by virtue of his secon d moto wi n a n d th eir rather d isma l fin ish was he a ble 10 walk away with th e top money in th e Open P ro class. In th e first moto, Brett Ca ho rs put h is big bore Honda CR into an ea rly lead and n ever rel in quished it. Devon Joos wa s never a ble to come withi n two bikelengths o f Ca hors, bu t th ere was n o let up in h is tryin g ; J oo s has n ever r idden harder or bett er.
