Expert Jacob Swain (Rincon Kawasaki/PJ I ) felt th e heat from Intermedi at e Crai g Decker (AXO /Kaw ) for most o f th e first rnoto, Decker stayed right on S wa in 's tail for a ll but two of th e eight-lap affair, Decker grabbed the lead a t th e start of the seco nd round a nd led for half of th e race before Swain passed him, and even then Decker sta yed close until th e end of th e race. In th e 250cc Pro class Mark Decker took th e win with a 2-2 tall y. Chris H einrich led the first half of m oto o ne until he fell and th en became involved in a fig h t w ith an o ther ride r th at a lso went down. Tom Combs took over but went o ut a co u p le o r' la ps lat er wh en hi s chai n derailed. Rob E ngel led the res t o f th e way, and Decker took seco n d after a long duel with La urie Fooks. Decker got an earlv lead in m oto two , but was pa ssed on th e fourth lap by H einrich . Pipes takes CMC Huron night MX By Clark Emery H URON , CA, MAY 18 Aaron Pipes took home the glory with a win in the 500cc Intermedi at e cla ss at tonight's California Motosport Clubsa nc tioned mot ocross a t Huron Cycle Park . Pi pe s ac hieved hi s w in by defeatin g R yan Menke. who took th e first mota afte r Pipes bailed in a corner. Bu t Pi pes ca me back in round tow to ge t hi s revenge with a clean win over Menke. In th e first moro, it was Menke with th e holeshot, but Pipes had other plans in mind a n d by th e end of the first lap Pipes had passed Menke for the lead. Soon. both riders were way out in front. leaving the pack in their wake. Coming into th e second lap, P ipes suddenly fell while exit ing a slick co rn er, injuring his ankle in the process. Menke capitalized on Pipes' situation and turned on the gas on hi s Honda, establishing a lead that had him lapping some of the slower riders. Atthe ch eckered flag. it was Menke out in front. with Pipes some distance back in second. In th e second mota. P ipes - not one to let a so re ankle come between him,and first pl ace - wa s ba ck a t th e sta rt ing lin e. When the gate dropped, it was Menke again with th e holeshot and a h ard-charging Pipes glued to hi s rea r wheel. waiting for a mi stake. Nea r th e halfwa y mark . Pi pes made his move on a whoop sectio n an d put h is Honda CR500 into first place. P ipes n ever looked back and led to th e en d, nettin g him th e overall win in th e process. In 125cc Beg inner class ac tion, Fresn o rider Bill y Woods gra bbed the lead wi th Dav id Van Wart on hi s Kawasaki KXI25 second. and Yamaham ounted Dav id T homas in th ird. A few la ps into th e race, Woods mad e it clear 10 all th a t h e was th e man to beat, pull in g away from th e pa ck an d ra cing w ith so me o f 125cc Juniors th at were running in the first wave . But th e real raci ng was going on for seco nd an d third pl ace, with Van Wart and Thomas di cing it out. Van Wart rode fast er in the front section of the track , wh ile T homa s would catch up in th e back section, which made for so me tight racing, as both riders would take turns ca tch in g a nd th en pulling away from each other.
